Q:I want to buy steel. My problem is i purchase it from a middle man, so i need to know what MIld steel is. What it's real name or specifications is/are. I dont want to end up purchasing Black steel or other stuff i can sell or use...
iron mild steel are not the same but you need iron to make mild steel this is done by the process off a blast furnace were iron ore coke limestone are added coke is coal which has been put into a coking oven to remove some impurities then once the coke, iron ore limestone are mixed this and comes out the bottom of the blast furnace red hot is know as pure iron once you have this you then put it into the BOS Basic Oxygen Steel making were pure oxygen is blown onto the the iron for about 45 min which then turns the iron into steel. hope this helps :o)
Q:I'm writing a story, and trying to find out how hot it needs to be for steel to turn into a gas.
Steel is to broad. There are many types of steel with different melting/boiling points. Iron* has a boiling point of 5182 °F and a Heat of vaporization of 340 kJ·mol?1. iron is the main ingredient of steel, along with carbon and other various elements.
Q:What are the common defects in steel coil surface finishes?
Scratches, pits, rust, oil stains, and uneven coating are all common defects that can be found on the surface finishes of steel coils. Scratches are typically caused by mishandling or transportation and can significantly impact both the appearance and performance of the coil. Pits, on the other hand, are small depressions that can be attributed to various factors such as impurities in the steel or incorrect processing techniques. Rust occurs when the coil is exposed to moisture or corrosive environments, and this can compromise the structural integrity of the material. If the coil is not adequately cleaned before or after processing, oil stains may appear, leaving unattractive marks on the surface. Lastly, uneven coating can arise during the application of protective coatings or paints, resulting in varying levels of protection and aesthetics across different areas of the coil. It is crucial to address these defects to ensure the steel coil's quality and durability in its intended applications.
Q:Does a magnet stick to galvinied steel?
yes it does. The steel below the galvanized coating still has a relative high carbon content and magnets stick to it. Magnets do not stick to stainless steel very well though. There is a weak attraction there. If I recall correctly this is due to the relatively low carbon content and the higher content of chromium.
Q:What is the role of steel coils in the automotive industry?
Steel coils play a crucial role in the automotive industry as they are the primary raw material used for manufacturing various components and parts of vehicles. These coils are typically made from high-quality steel and are formed into a continuous strip, which can be easily processed and shaped into desired automobile parts. One of the key applications of steel coils in the automotive industry is in the production of body panels and frames. These coils are processed through stamping and forming techniques to create panels such as doors, hoods, fenders, and roofs. Steel coils provide the necessary strength, durability, and rigidity required to withstand external forces and protect the passengers and other components of the vehicle. Moreover, steel coils are also utilized in the manufacturing of various structural components of automobiles. Chassis, suspension systems, and other critical parts such as engine cradles and brackets are typically produced using steel coils due to their excellent mechanical properties. Steel coils possess high tensile strength, which enhances the overall structural integrity of the vehicle and ensures safety. Additionally, steel coils are integral in the production of automotive springs, which play a vital role in the suspension system. Coil springs, leaf springs, and torsion bars are commonly utilized in vehicles to absorb shocks, provide stability, and maintain proper ride height. The use of steel coils in these applications ensures optimal performance, durability, and longevity of the suspension system. In summary, steel coils are essential in the automotive industry for their versatility, strength, and durability. They are used in the manufacturing of body panels, frames, structural components, and suspension systems. The utilization of steel coils in these applications contributes to the overall safety, reliability, and performance of vehicles.
Q:Can steel coils be recoiled?
Yes, steel coils can be recoiled. Recoiling involves rewinding a steel coil into a more compact shape, typically to improve storage or transportation efficiency. This process is commonly used in industries such as manufacturing, construction, and transportation.
Q:What is the maximum diameter of a steel coil?
The maximum diameter of a steel coil can vary depending on multiple factors such as the type of steel, coil weight, and the specific dimensions required by the manufacturer. However, in general, steel coils can range in maximum diameter from a few feet to several meters.
Q:I asked a question last week about stainless steel and got some great answers. I combed all over the internet to try to figure this one out but could not find anything. What resists bending better: chrome vanadium steel (i.e. a steel commonly used to make tools) or stainless steel 304. My guess would be the chrome vanadium alloy but thats just a guess. Which on resist's bending better and by how much (#'s please :-)). Also, if anyone knows if chrome vanadium steel is cheaper than stainless steel 304 that would be awesome? I can't find a price per pound on chrome vanadium steel anywhere! Please help. Thanks in advance-Josh
Type 304 stainless steel can be tempered to give tensile strength up to about 125,000 psi. There are many chrome vanadium alloys, and tempers, but they are generally very hard steels used for machine tools which are used to cut other steels. They generally are much stronger, and can be hardened up to tensile strengths of 250,000 psi and beyond. (Bending strength is proportional to tensile strength, but Cr-V steels are not usually used for beams or other structure members.) Cr-V steels are specialty alloys and will probably be a good bit more expensive per pound than common stainless alloys. For any steel, price depends on the form you are buying, i.e. plate, bar, or other shape, as well as the alloy and temper specified, and the quantity. You need to get prices from a supplier. You can find some online catalogs, but you usually have to call the vendor for price info.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of structural components?
Structural components heavily rely on steel coils throughout the production process. These coils, made from rolled steel strips, serve as the essential raw material for manufacturing various components like beams, columns, and trusses. The initial step in utilizing steel coils for structural components involves uncoiling the strip and cutting it into desired lengths. This can be achieved using diverse cutting methods, such as shearing or sawing. Once the coils are cut into appropriate lengths, they undergo further processing to shape them into specific structural components required for a particular project. One prevalent approach to shaping steel coils into structural components is through bending or forming. This necessitates the use of specialized machinery to bend or shape the steel into the desired configuration. For instance, a steel coil can be bent into an I-beam shape, commonly employed as a load-bearing component in buildings and bridges. Another technique employed for shaping steel coils into structural components is welding. This involves joining multiple steel coils together to create larger components. Welding is often employed to fabricate components like columns or trusses, which demand the combination of multiple steel coils to achieve the required strength and structural integrity. Once the steel coils have been shaped and formed into the desired structural components, they may undergo additional processes, including surface treatment or coating, to enhance their durability and resistance to corrosion. This ensures that the components will endure and withstand the demands of their intended applications. In conclusion, steel coils are crucial in manufacturing structural components as they provide the necessary raw material. Through cutting, bending, and welding processes, steel coils are transformed into the specific components needed for various construction projects. These components play a vital role in supporting the structural integrity of buildings, bridges, and other structures.
Q:How are steel coils used in the manufacturing of flooring materials?
Steel coils are used in the manufacturing of flooring materials by being formed into sheets or strips and then processed through various techniques such as cutting, bending, and shaping to create the desired flooring products. The steel coils provide strength, durability, and stability to the flooring materials, ensuring long-lasting and reliable flooring solutions.
