Q:How are steel coils transported internationally?
Steel coils are typically transported internationally using various modes of transportation such as ships, rail, and trucks. Ships are commonly used for long-distance transportation, where steel coils are loaded onto specialized vessels equipped with cranes for efficient loading and unloading. Rail and trucks are often used for shorter distances or for transporting steel coils from the port to the final destination. Specialized equipment such as flatbed trailers or intermodal containers are utilized to ensure the safe and secure transport of steel coils.
Q:What is the major disadvantage of hardened steel? Do you think this form of iron would be wear resistant and retain a sharpened edge?
a disadvantage is the fact that the cold forming capability of this steel
Q:Well the other day i told my friend that when you put a compass near steel it will screw up and he said only magnets do that then i showed him and it worked then he said: that'ss because steel has its own magnet in it coz it builds up static electricity is that correct what he said? thanks
No. Steel does not build up static electricity by itself. Also, magnetic fields are made by moving electricity, not static electicity. The steel conducts magnetism, so it changes the earth's magnetic field near itself by conducting the field through itself. The larger effect is a magnet near a piece of steel: the compass has a magnet, and when you place it near a ferromagnetic material, it attracts. Try putting a refridgerator magnet against the fridge - it sticks because it attracts.
Q:i have noticed in guns, and artillery the shell casings are always made out of brass. brass is expensive, weaker and dosnt look as good as steel. so why use it for casings? i am aware some of the case must be deformed. but just a small brass percussion cap could be used just for that and steel for the rest. whats going on?
Basically all the others are right, except Skeptical who never answered your question. Just thru out an insult....what was that you said about growing up?...hmmmmm Also Skeptical...take a look at modern day guns (pistols and rifles), holsters, knives, even bullet, packaging and boxes for the above. You don't think looks play a role in design? Aesthetics and whether something is pleasing to the eye ALWAYS plays a role in marketing. To answer the question though, it allows the shell expansion to seal the chamber, it's lighter, and also much easier and prolongs the life of the extractor.
Q:How are steel coils inspected for elongation?
Steel coils are typically inspected for elongation by conducting a tensile test. A small sample is cut from the coil and subjected to tension until it breaks. The elongation is then calculated by measuring the increase in length of the sample at the point of fracture.
Q:Hey Guys, I'm planning on purchasing a bmx bike and I have been recommended by many people the Kink Launch 2012. I'm thinking of getting it but the frame is made from High Tensile steel and I know the chromoly is stronger and more expensive, but I plan to use my bmx just to chill, ride with friends and some times go through dirt trails at my park, I would like to know, how strong Hi Tensile steel is and can it handle jumps not massive jumps but like jumps where you get like 3 feet high (1m) just for fun, I might go to the skate park but I'm not gonna do tail whips and massive jumps, I just want it as a mobile piece of transportation. I don't want to buy a mtb because I already had 3 of them and they are not practical to take with you on holidays. So, do you think the Kink Launch 2012 is good enough or should I cough up an extra $80 and get the gap ($500 AU)? As I said I ain't gonna do huge jumps.
High tensile steel could mean almost anything. SAE 4130 Chrome-Moly steel is the de-facto standard for steel bikes frames. High tensile steel could actually mean the same thing since chrome-moly is classified as high strength steel. The strength of the frame depends as much on the quality of the welds and on the size/thickness of the tubing as much as anything else. I'd say what kind of steel you use makes only a minor difference. One reason you want to buy bikes from reputable name-brand companies is they tend to have strict quality controls, this is particularly important when it comes to welds. Welds are always the weakest part of any bike frame, don't let anyone tell you different. 99% of the time if something in the frame breaks, it'll be at the welds. hope this helps.
Q:What are the dimensions of steel coils used in the energy sector?
The dimensions of steel coils utilized in the energy sector may differ depending on the specific application and requirements. However, typical dimensions for steel coils in the energy sector encompass a thickness range of 0.5mm to 5.0mm, with widths that usually span from 600mm to 2000mm. The diameter of the coil can also vary, with commonly employed sizes ranging from 1000mm to 2200mm. These dimensions are carefully selected to ensure that the coils can be easily transported, processed, and employed in various energy sector applications, such as power plants, oil and gas pipelines, and renewable energy projects. It is important to emphasize that these dimensions are not fixed and can be tailored according to specific project requirements.
Q:So, I'm looking into steel toe paddock boots. I'll be using them around horses, horses that I don't know and that are rescue horses. I'm currently looking at Equitector the Moorland paddock boots. They're $200, and I think I have to order them online. I like boots that are this style (the Moorland style)... Is there any other brand of boots that has steel toe paddock boots, that are cheaper or that I can buy in stores?
Hi! You can hike in steel toed boots, but I wouldn't. They aren't designed for hiking, no matter what the manufacturers says. They're built to protect your feet from hazards on a job site. I bought my first pair of decent hiking boots for $10/month on layaway at an outfitters. It took forever, of course, but I didn't have the money to buy them right out. Until then, I hiked in a pair of tennis shoes. Sneakers are just fine as hiking gear, though remember that you will have no ankle support, so you need to be more careful on rocky trails. Use a pair you don't mind getting dirty and make sure they have decent ankle support. Also, this is a great time of year to buy boots if you can scrounge the money together. Most outfitters are swapping over to their spring lines and have shoe/boot sales going on. You don't have to use an outfitter, either. Lots of regular shoe or department stores sell boots that will work just fine until you can afford some nice top-line boots.
Q:I was looking at my Great-Grandfather's immigration form from when he immigrated from Scotland and he listed his occupation as a steel dresser. What does a steel dresser do?
I'm not sure, but it could be like and engineer working in steel design or steel polisher. I checked Wikipedia and Yahoo but found nothing. It may be a description of something only in Scotland. Sorry
Q:How are steel coils used in the manufacturing of tools and equipment?
Steel coils are used in the manufacturing of tools and equipment as they provide a versatile and durable material for construction. These coils are typically shaped, cut, and molded into various components such as blades, shafts, and handles, which are then assembled to create the final product. The strength and resilience of steel make it an ideal choice for tools and equipment, ensuring longevity and optimal performance in various industries.
