If your only reason for not wanting the rug is that it would be more difficult to clean, then agree to get a shag rug only on the conditions : 1. she purchases the rug (which will then obviously be hers to keep once you two stop living together); 2. she cleans the rug; AND 3. she doesn't get bent out of shape if you think the rug needs cleaning and you then ask her to do so. If she is trying THAT hard to get you to okay having a shag rug, then I'd let her do it, as long as she knows that it is her responsibility to clean it, AND that cleaning is subject to both of your subjective opinions on cleanliness.

Your answer from CowboyDoc was something very important to consider. The age of the carpet. Having been the owner of a flooring store for many years, I totally agree with what Doc told you. If the carpet is old, you can most certainly rip it. Your answer from John G was accurate as to how to do it. I sure would have liked to have him on my staff of installers. He sounds very knowledgeable. I hope you have good luck with your stretching job. And DO consider the age of the carpet. Once it rips you are going to be forced to buy new carpet. Q:I have the area rugs on the top of carpet. and sofa was on it. now the sofa is moved and rug is wrinkled badly. how to unwrikle it? I placed heavy books on the wrinkles, still they are not smooth and I trip over them. thanks in advance.

Hang the rug up if you can and spray it with water and see if you can work the wrinkles out by pulling of them. Good Luck

you could tell them the advantages of having a carpet in your room, and you told us that you'll be the one to gather money for it so your parents might agree with that. you can always lock your room so that the dogs cannot enter or whatever, just make sure you have the key. hope you can have your carpet.

Q:My puppy decided to chew the carpet going from my living room into my kitchen (which is laminate). Unfortunately, my attempts thus far have just made things worse. I was trying to put a transition piece in, but could not get it to stick since beneath the carpet is just concrete. My lease is up in 3 weeks and I'm getting a bit panicked. I read online that you can take a piece of carpet from a closet and use that piece to seam to ripped carpet, then grab some similar carpet from the store to replace the closet area. Any suggestions to make this process go easier? I think I just need a tack strip and some special tape that I get from lowes. Any other suggestions?

Q:I have a white carpet that has gotten dirty over the years. The color has just generally changed to a dirtier white. It's kinda dark and you can easily tell which parts of the carpet haven't gotten dirty over the years as they are perfectly white. I also have some stains. I tried bleaching some parts of the carpet which did actually work, but that left clean spots that look weird compared to how the rest of the carpet is. I would bleach the whole thing but it created such a strong smell last time that I couldn't sleep in my room. Is there a way to generally whiten the entire carpet with the supers strong smell of bleach. Preferably a way to do this with household items. Thank you.
