Q:We must have had 10 vacuums in the past 5 years. We have been buying bagless upright vacuum cleaners in the $80-$150 range. We run a playgroup from our house so we vacuum alot!! At least 3 times a day. These cheap cleaners just don't last. The loose suction very quickly and eventually just break. So we have decided to invest in a better quality one. Any suggestions of a good quality vacuum cleaner that will last and do a really good job time after time. We don't really care about bag/bagless or upright/canister. We just want something that works well and will last. We are looking in the $400 max price range. So far we have been looking at Dyson, Oreck and Electrolux. Please help!!!!
I own a dyson and it is renowned as one of the best vacuums. My uncle has a kirby, the best vacuums available, but heavy, not packed with features, but will last forever which is what you would be paying over 1000 dollars for. The dyson comes pretty customizeable in many different models. And the fact that the dyson never loses suction which is correct. The only thing with the dyson is that if you have a pet there will get a lot of hair stuck around the rotating brush which is the only cleaning you will ever have to do with it. The receptacle is super easy to take out dump and then put back in with only one hand. Just don't be too rough with your dyson i haven't broken any part of mine but it is only made out of plastic.
Q:Can anyone recommend an inexpensive vacuum for hardwood floors?
Hey. You could just try buying a cheap vacuum cleaner from the supermarket (ASDA) or some kind of electrical store, just use the brush option on the cleaner end.
Q:I want to clean my carpet with one of those foam spray cleaners, but I have a bagless vacuum. I know they use to have a disclosure of quot;not for use with bagless vacuumsquot;. Is this still true?
Yes, I think that is still true.
Q:What is the best vacuum to buy when you have dogs. I need something good at picking up dirt and hair. I know a kirby is good but I dont have tht kind of money.
Dyson, you can get cheaper ones (but still brilliant for around $150 - $200)
Q:Sears just had a sale on vacuum cleaners and I got their progressive upright model 35923 with the quot;intelicleansystem. This is the one highly rated by Consumer Reports.I used it for a few days, and it seemed okay, except the inteliclean system would start acting weird after about 30 minutes of use. It would slip into the highest-power mode and get quot;stuckthere. Even on areas that it previously went over and sensed as clean. I could temporarlily fix it by switching out of carpet mode, then back in, but after a while it would get stuck again.Swapped it for another one, and the sales associate tells me to NOT USE the inteliclean system the first few times I vacuum. When I ask why, she says quot;I don't know what the reason is, we're just supposed to tell the customers thatquot;. Sounds pretty strange to me. There's nothing in the manual about it.Has anyone else gotten this advice from Sears regarding their inteliclean equipped vac? If so, what's the reason for it?
take it back and get another vac. it has a problem, a friend has one and it doesnot do that, the sales man sounds like he knows nothing and cares less.
Q:Do bad vacuum cleaners suck, or blow?
Haven't you ever turned one on and had an odor blow from it while it was sucking up the dust?
Q:How do vacuum cleaners work?
The electricity operates the motor. The motor turns the fan. The fan takes air from underneath the vacuum cleaner and directs it through the dust collection bag. At the same time the brushes turn and flick up the dust/dirt into the stream of air going into the vacuum cleaner. The dust bag is a filter with small holes in it. The dust sucked into the bag is bigger than the holes so stays in the bag.
Q:Will future vacuum cleaners have a small black hole to improve suction?
Hah! Do you know that back in the 1940s people were saying that one day all our cars would be powered by little nuclear reactors. Look where that went, especially after Chernobyl and Fukushima. People tend to go all foamy at the mouth with their enthusiasm for any new discovery and imagine all manner of applications, thinking it is going to be electricity all over again. Nowadays we don't even wait for a discovery. Just some fanciful speculative piece of math is enough to get the hyperbole organ activated. ELectricity DID find all manner of new applications. But note carefully that electricity is readily available all around up at essentially zero cost. All we had to do was learn to manage it. Dangerous levels of radiation are not all around us. Generating it is a great risk. Hypothetical black holes are light years away, require far more energy to make than the entire history of humanity has ever generated many times over. And frankly if some fool decided to start bringing them to Earth, the result would be disasters that would dwarf Fukushima. Perhaps it would be better if we simply started to get over our cleanliness fetishes and go back to using a broom. Cheers!

Q:Has anyone with pet allergies tryed the Hepa Air Cleaner? How well does it work?
If you have a pet allergy, the best strategy is to avoid or reduce exposure to the animal as much as possible. Medications or other treatments may be necessary to relieve symptoms and manage asthma. If that is not an option, indoor pets should be restricted to as few rooms in the home as possible. Isolating the pet to one room, however, will not limit the allergens to that room. Air currents from forced-air heating and air-conditioning will spread the allergens throughout the house. Homes with forced-air heating and/or air-conditioning may be fitted with a central air cleaner. This may remove significant amounts of pet allergens from the home. The air cleaner should be used at least four hours per day. The use of heating and air-conditioning filters and HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting) filters as well as vacuuming carpets, cleaning walls and washing the pet with water are all ways of reducing exposure to the pet allergen. Vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters are now available. However, in a patient with severe symptoms resulting from animal dander exposure, a HEPA filter is not an effective solution.
