Q:how is cement prepaed? what are the uses and different types of cement?
I've been in exactly the same situation. We live on the edge of nowhere and can't get delivered concrete. We poured our greenhouse floor, using Portland premix cement and a mixer. Our mixer is slightly smaller than yours. We used extra water in the mix so it would stay workable longer. Bad idea! The floor did fine until the first winter. It then split, chipped cracked and, well, you get the picture. We ended up redoing it. The second time we divided the floor into three sections. Each section had its own small 3/8 rebar web placed 2 above ground in a 4 floor. We supported the web by driving 10 pieces of 3/8 rebar into the ground and wire to hold the web to them. Lastly, on the sides where the adjoining sections would go, we used 1 x 6 pieces of redwood. We drilled them and ran rebar through to the web – leaving 2' sticking out for attaching the new sections. That piece sticking out was attached to the next section's rebar web. It has been there for several years now, and has no cracks at all. Our temperatures range from 105°F in summer to -40°F in winter. I put a link in to show how to determine how many cubic yards of concrete you'll need. Good luck!
Q:Some say it is, some say it isn't. I'm wanting to create a vaulted tunnel below grade and I need it to be able to resist the standard tendency for cement fines to wash away in wet conditions.
Most construction cements today are hydraulic, and most of these are based on Portland cement, which is made primarily from limestone, certain clay minerals, and gypsum in a high temperature process that drives off carbon dioxide and chemically combines the primary ingredients into new compounds. Non-hydraulic cements include such materials as (non-hydraulic) lime and gypsum plasters, which must be kept dry in order to gain strength, and oxychloride cements, which have liquid components. Lime mortars, for example, set only by drying out, and gain strength only very slowly by absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to re-form calcium carbonate through carbonatation.
Q:Walking pavementTypes of coumpounds or one
If you want to make cement or 'concrete' for a foot-path: 1 part cement 2 part gravel or sharp stones 3 part sand (not from the beach) You can mix these yourself in a barrow, add the water sparingly, not in big amounts. Don't want the mix too sloppy.
Q:I was wondering if anyone out there knew the proper procedure for applying 1.5quot; of asphalt to a soil cement subgrade? I dont know if a tack coat is needed or not. Right now we are planning on a fresh broom finish and a single application of asphalt. Its a low use parking lot but I want to make sure we are doing this right. Thanks!
we do soil-cement base with AC or HMA surface all the time. Never use a tack coat. The thinking is have a slip plane between the two sections. Tack coat would allow the subbase to telegraph cracks up into the AC. The key is to have the right soil-cement mix at optimal moisture. Too much water will result in shrinkage cracks. With only 1.5 inch AC that could be a problem. How did you come up with a soil-cement mix design? How much cement? how thick in your section? good luck! Don the engineer
Q:it can't be reused because of the heat exposureor also a building that has been torn down
I think you are confusing cement with concrete. Sometimes crushed concrete is used as a base material for roads, or as ballast in gabion baskets. Cement is the very fine dusty material that reacts with water to make concrete. It's generally not used without aggregate (i.e. sand, stones).
Q:What are the cement models, what are the general buildings on the use of cement?
32.5R42.5R52.5R, the building is used on the 32.5R.
Q:We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. We removed the old linoleum floors and there are wood planks that run north to south. Currently, this layer is flush with our living room wood floors. From the basement, you can see that there are boards that run west to east where the kitchen is.My question is, if I remove the wood planks that run north to south, can I put down a layer of cement board and just start tiling over the west to east boards? Will the weight be a structural issue? I would leave the north to south boards, but I'm worried about a tripping hazard being presented when I put down cement board, grout, and 1/2quot; tile (would probably be 1quot; all together). Trying to stay away from ramps, also. Thanks.
Are you saying there's 2 layers of boards on top of the floor joists? If yes then removing the top layer would be the way to go if the bottom sub-floor layer is strong enough to not be springy under concentrated loads or if you can beef it up by installing bridging underneath between the joists. If the sub-floor is the only layer then you'd not want to remove that since the structural integrity of the house would be affected and the cement board wouldn't be properly supported.
Q:The chimney is deteriorating due to water getting in the cement block.
You are thinking only of the ones that attach to the flue, there are some that address your issue.
Q:does anyone have any experience in that? does it reduce the noise a lot or just a bit? and about the ceiling... my neighbors throw and drag things on the floor (they're mental cases, fruitcakes). i can't afford to move right now because the house is bought so i'd have to sell and buy another house. can't do that right now. and it always costs money.to what extent will the cement on the ceiling reduce the noise?what kind of windows are the best?thank you all...
Double-paned windows will buffer exterior noise considerably (and maintain your energy costs, too) but cement on the ceiling? Nope. All sound in your space will be magnified
Q:I am putting tile on the wall in my bathroom (not in the shower), do i have to put cement board behind it?or can i just leave the drywall that is already there?
Cement board is threat unfastened below the stool, yet no longer very gentle. I had carpet in my bathing room for years and enjoyed it!!!!!!!! i grow to be a unmarried guy returned then with below perfect cleansing skills. however the carpet grow to be perfect for that. It grow to be wall-to-wall throw carpet. while it regarded undesirable, %. it up, throw it interior the laundry, in spite of this on the floor. It regarded NEW any time i wanted! My spouse cringes on the belief of carpet now, yet she already is attentive to that at our next domicile my bathing room might have carpet returned. The carpet is offered in a extensive piece. You draw out the footprint of the floor then decrease it out with scissors. it somewhat is only like a throw rug. i individually choose it returned! i might propose slapping down low value vinyl tiles below the carpet so which you have gotten an entire floor on laundry day.
