Q:Who makes the best spark plug wires? i think the ones on my car are crap...they are Mag*star O.E. replacements, and they suck. What do you recomend? Its an 89 thunderbird
As with all makes and model vehicles on the road, the best replacement parts is what it came with from the factory, in your case, Motorcraft is the origional equipment replacement ( OEM ) but they are usually available only from the dealership parts dept, which usually is a hard hit to the wallett. A good quality replacement set of plug wires that I use in my repair shop is Napa premium silicone plug wires, ( they also may carry the name Beldon ) They have a lifetime warranty for as long as you own your vehicle. They are fairly expensive, but they are good, I use them in my own vehicles. If I may add to that, I had a problem with one of the wires on my Ford pickup about a year ago and I have had those wires about 6 or 7 years I think, I took them back to Napa, and got a brand new set, no questions asked. My pickup has been running fine since.
Q:I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?
A good stripper has settings for each wire size. Make sure you have it set to the correct size. Are you nicking the wire or cutting some of the strands? if not, then that the wire gets split is not a problem. Just twist the strands back together. ending up stranded? the wire starts out solid or stranded, you can't make solid into stranded. .
Q:I have 12/3 wire running from the breaker box on a 20 amp breaker that powers a bathroom (2 lights and 2 receptacles). I want to splice into this and run 14/2 wire into the living room to run 6 recessed lights. Is this OK to do?
No you should either use a 20 amp breaker and 20 amp recepticles or if you use a 15 amp breaker then use 14/2 or 14/3 wire. Too heavy of wire creates a fire risk. If your new home was wired to code, this seems quite odd.
Q:A wire is 1.5 m long and has a diameter of 1.5 mm. The stretch modulus of the wire is 6.2 x 10^10 N/m^2. If a force of 400 N is applied to end of the wire then the increase in length of the wire is???please help, thanks
The stretching of wire by longitudinal force: If F force applied across the crosectional area A of wire of radius r and lenght L then the wire elaogates in the dirextion of force Stress P = F / A A = pi* r^2 = (1.5/2)*10^-3 = 7.5 *10^-4 m^2 strain produced = dL / L = increase in length / original L Young's modulus or elastic (stretch) modulus for the maretial, within elastic limits, Y = stress/strain strain = stress / Y dL = F * L / A * Y = F * L / pi (r^2) * Y dL = 400* 1.5 / 3.14 (7.5 *10^-4)^2 * 6.2*10^10) meter dL = 0.005479 * meter dL = 5.479 millimeters increase in length
Q:My tail light work but when i hit the breaks everything go out. Any answers? Standard 4 wire
I believe that you have a bad gound wire, i realize that the ball should be enough to ground it , but it dosen't always work like that , so make sure that your white ground wire `is hooked up to your truck frame and the white wire coming from the trailer is connected to the frame of the trailer
Q:Electron flow in a conducting wire.?I have some confusion regarding the flow of electrons in a wire when voltage is applied across it. Intuitively, i see that when i apply voltage across the ends of the wire say by a battery. The voltage pushes the electrons in the wire. As, a result the electrons flow in straight direction rather than going zig-zag. Some of the electrons reach the positive terminal of the battery, now my query is what happens when the electrons reach the positive terminal.Do they loose all their energy? Also, how is there a constant flow of electrons in the wire because since electrons are flowing constantly from the negative to the positive, is there no instance all the free electrons in the wire have reached the positive terminal? Basically what i mean to say is do the free electrons ever gets extinct? I am sorry if my question sounds stupid but can anyone please explain me a little bit in a conceptual manner?
Well, the wire is connected to a voltage source. When they leave the positive terminal, they go through the wire, then get to the negative terminal. They then flow through the voltage source and back into the wire.
Q:okay my apt building was built in 1975 I am changing my light fixture new from home depot and the ground wire, the black and white wire are basic on the new fixture. I am looking in the case box in my ceiling all I see is a black wire attached to red, and a yellow wire attached to a white wire which then attaches to another two white wires (then gos go's up behind the casing) I am not sure which is the ground here. There is a copper looking wire that is thick, thick it just isnt as malleable as the new ground wire that is on my new light fixture. It seems very difficult to maneuver.. Could this be my ground from the ceiling. It was attached to the mount of the old fixture my a screw.
All wiring is different but the basics remain the same. Before attempting anything please turn off the power. If I have the good picture in my head, there are extension wires added to the black and white this would be done if the wire run though the wall was too short and needed a little extra to get wired properly to a fixture. If I look at the bad picture in my head you have a jump cable attached which is running to a second outlet or light fixture. If the extra wires go back into the ceiling leading somewhere else then it is probably running to a different fixture and this isn't the best way to run electrical. It could potentially overload your circuit. If it has been working for 40 years without a problem you are probably ok, so long as the fixture you're adding is within the same category as the fixture you're removing. The thick copper wire will be your ground wire and should be attached to the box, and to the outlet itself with screws. Good luck with that fixture.
Q:So I know that the neutral wire is the 'return wire'. But why does my textbook say that it has the potential to have the same amount of electricity as the live wire (if the wiring is faulty)? But essentially, if the wiring is not faulty it is technically safe to touch it, it has 0 volts.Could someone explain this to me?
In the absence of faults, the neutral should be safe. It is normally connected to ground at the supply entry board or at the substation/transformer. In the event that a neutral wire becomes disconnected between an appliance and the supply entry board, it will be at the same potential as the live wire.
Q:Hey there, so my cat chewed through some of my wires, what should I do to like fix them?
Splice in new wire. Cover any missing insulation with electrical tape.
Q:I have a 1997 Dodge Neon 2DR and i did a electric door and mirror conversion but i cannt figure out the wiring... how would i go about figuring it out... can some explain or better show me how a basic lock and mirror controls are wired
The black wire goes to the black wire The red wire goes to the red wire The white wire goes to the white wire. Just be careful with the blue wire, it goes to the green wire.
