Q:Solar Panels: How long will it be before solar panels are cheap & effecient enough so that everyone?
Solar panels are cost effective if they are used over their payback period. The problem is that the down payment is expensive, and the payback period is maybe 0-20 years, so very few people actually expect to own their homes for 0-20 years. It also only really makes sense in areas that buy back electricity generated during the day when you're not using it. In Germany and other european countries, power companies are required to buy back electricity at a higher price than they sell it for--this reduces the payback period and is a great incentive for solar panels. For this reason, they are much more popular over there. Given a little time for the price to fall and given some change in energy policy, solar panels will become more cost effective in the future. Depends on who gets elected, though. There is a solution to the payback period problem, though. Rather than homeowners taking on the long payback period in homes they may not own long enough, some companies are buying panels and leasing them to homeowners. In exchange, homeowners get reduced electric bills, that pay off the lease payments, plus a little extra. I think this is the way to go. check out the link below.
Q:Why should I use a Charge Controller for my Battery and Solar Panel based on these provided details?
Should I really be concerned with a Charge Controller? Yes. The main purpose of the charge controller is to protect the battery from over charging. Over charging reduces battery life. And spending extra money for a MPPT type controller will get more more useable power out of your solar panel. Would another battery of the same magnitude be helpful in preventing an accident? How much storage capacity does your current battery have (measured in kWH)? A ~$20 Kill-a-Watt meter would take a lot of uncertainty out of how much power you actually use. Even deep cycle batteries suffer reduced battery life from deep discharges. The battery sounds too small for the loads you describe so I would think you would want more. ---------------------------------------... After reading the other answer In a nutshell, with your small 2 volt starting battery, 24 volt panel and a mix of unknown loads, (which is correct), I thought I would elaborate. I had not considered the possibility that you bought a 24 volt panel for your 2 volt battery. Hooking the panel you bought directly to the current battery is a horrible idea. I you were lucky it would just cook the battery in a short period of time. You basically bought the wrong type of panel for a 2 volt system. I assume that there are no controllers on the the market for this situation. If that's the case, I don't know of any good way match the 24v panel to the 2 volt battery.
Q:how many solar panels and what type to power a laptop computer that has to be plugged in when in use?
Solar Power For Laptop
Q:Where can i buy mini (v - 2v) solar panels?
Jameco okorder.com/
Q:How much do solar panels cost?
I don't know the square of your school. generally the solar panel is 0.6$ per watt. so if 5kilowatt can meet your demand the cost will be3000$.
Q:How Solar Panel Works ?
when sunlight hits a solar panel the photons from the light hit a layer in panel that converts it into electrons through conduction, thus making electricity
Q:highest known watt output for solar panels?
in case you raise a dumb-bell a undeniable style of feet, you have expended a undeniable volume of potential, does this variation if the gymnasium exchange into on yet another floor of the construction? Grounding is needed for defense and to dodge floor loops from happening, the quantity of potential produced would not exchange and any adjustments in potential will bring about a risky floor loop attempting to equalize it.
Q:how long do roof solar panels last?
All okorder.com/... PV warranties typically allow for 20 percent output degradation over the module’s 20- to 25-year warranty life. But measurements of many modules put into service in the 980s show that it’s unusual to see even half that much degradation. Many of those earliest modules still perform to their original specifications. It is safe to say that modules carrying warranties of 20 years or more have a high probability of working well 30 years from now
Q:I need help with a solar panel?
With that size panel, you should be able to recharge either AA battery, or two AA batteries in series. Yes, it would be a good idea to put a blocking diode in series with the panel - anything will do, like a N448. You will want to use NiCd batteries if possible, because they take a trickle charge of 50 mA much better than NiMH (which prefers pulse charging, a more complicated circuit). You can use NiMH if you must. Needless to say, don't try to charge non-rechargable batteries. Also realize that at this charge rate, it will take days, maybe even a week, to charge the batteries, if left out in full sun all day long.
Q:Do solar panels add to global warming?
If you put a black panel on the ground or on your house and don't connect it to anything, it will absorb solar energy (heat) during daylight and release it at night (radiation). Not exactly. Assuming the black panel establishes an equilibrium temperature, it's going to be losing exactly as much heat as it's receiving during the day. Some will radiate out into space, some will conduct or convect into the atmosphere. As a wild guess, maybe 50/50. If you hook up a solar panel in the same place but hook it up to batteries, charge the batteries during sunlight hours and using that energy to electrically heat the home at night. The panels will absorb solar energy during the day but will convert that to electrical energy in the batteries instead of radiating it back into space at night. The panels are only about 4% efficient, so it's the same situation as the pure black panel for 86% of the energy. The remaining 4% will get stored in the batteries and then converted to heat at night. That heat will eventually leak out of the house and warm up the Earth a tiny bit. I think it's much the same situation either way. With the black panel the energy gets radiated / conducted/convected right away. With the solar panel a small percentage is stored and not so much is radiated, mostly conducted and convected. You're partly right as a black panel is going to radiate more into space than a house. But you're taking about maybe some day about 4% of % of the differening radiation/convection/conduction fraction, of the Earth's surface area. Probably not significant.
