Q:How much electrical energy is generated from one acre of solar panels?

That's a rather low power for that size. Is it an old panel? Is it amorphous silicon, or crystalline? That should easily fetch $ per watt on craigslist. If I was buying a panel myself, I would probably get a more mainstream panel from a major internet vendor.
Q:How can you get affordable Solar Panels?
We are having solar panels installed this Friday. Call a company called Solar City. You can work it through them 3 different ways, you can buy them out right and reap 00% savings, or lease them (like we are) and sign a contract. You won't pay a dime to lease them but your savings won't be as much. The plus side is, you don't have the huge expense either and they are responsible for the maintenance. Lastly, you can lease as the latter option, and purchase during any point of the lease at a pro-rata cost. You can also chose to buy the panels cheaply when your lease is up, but they may be very outdated by then. We have found Solar City top notch, highly trained, extremely polite and considerate. We found them set up at Home Depot. It took from about last January, I think it was, until this Friday, for installation, and then it will be about another 6 weeks until the service is actually turned on. Q:Is getting solar panels worth it for your home?
It depends upon how you look at things. If you are looking for a decent return on investment, or a business decision, it is probably very unwise. In most cases people would see a far better return in upgrading insulation in ceilings, walls, and windows to much better insulation than they currently have, followed by proper resizing heating and air conditioning to smaller unit size to fit their lesser need as a result of the insulation. The heat an air conditioning units should be the highest efficiency available. The return on the above can make a positive and economic investment in many cases. If you have done the above first, and have money to spend and do not care about the return on it, then you can play with solar or wind. However, typical cost of generation of solar and wind energy is about $0.22 / KWH and you can purchase from utility at about $0.0/ KWH including generation and distribution so this is not all that prudent.

Q:I have two ARCO M55 solar panels. What do I need to connect to a 2Volt bank of batteries.?
You can buy Solar Charger Regulators. I don't. These chargers limit the charging current to the batteries, so you do not get a full efficiency of the solar panel. They disconnect the batteries from the user side (the bulbs you use) if the battery voltage goes below a certain level (i.e. below 8V for a 2V battery), so you cannot use all the power available in the batteries, even in emergency. They introduce, at least, a 0.7V loss (diode forward voltage) between the panel and the battery. If you have SEVERAL panels and a lot of batteries, use a controller as above. If you only have one panel, insert a 5A trip fuse in line (in your case: twice the current of the panel), and a 0-20A diode in series between the panel and the batteries (Kathode side of the + of the battery, Anode side of the + of the panel). Install a voltmeter across the battery. The fuse will prevent any short or over-charge current. The diode will prevent the battery to discharge into the panel at night if it is not already protected. The voltmeter will allow you to watch the status. Your thought of limiting the voltage is useless: should the battery be low, the panel will drop its voltage, limited by the max current. Should the battery be fully charged and the solar panel at full efficiency, it will just try to charge the battery more. A bit of bubbles may result, hence the voltmeter to watch over it. If you want to limit the voltage to 4V, put a 4V Zener (4Vx2.5W!) in series with a resistor of, say, 7V-4V/2.5A or ~ Ohm, 5W, in parallel with the panel.

The housing market slumped and if you paid 50K for your home it is now only worth if you can even sale it about 00K. Not worth the money but people are still buying homes even if they are not worth what they are being sold for. And then the cars and trucks people buy will never pay for them selfs but people still buy them and spend extra the more wasteful the car is. So why does solar have to pay for it's self or prove it's self? It has many times over but because you can't drive a solar panel drunk and party out in the bars with it is is not worth the money. I guess the is just being human and a double standard. What about the big up front cost of solar? I remember a 20% up front cost when I bought my home and my car and it is the same 20% or less for a solar loan. Plus the value of solar is going up not down like with homes and a car is not worth but half what you paid for it the minute you drive it off the car lot. I can only see good from solar un like other things we buy.
