Q:The tile grout on my bathroom floor is white in some parts, but dark where husband stands next to the sink/toilet... How can I clean it without having to re-grout it? Can I just spray bleach on or will that ruin the tile?: Mr Clean Magic Eraser cleans grout beautifully.

Q:I have a light colored ceramic tile floor that I would like to refinish with a different look - perhaps a darker color with some textured look to it. Is there some way to do this, or am I better off replacing the tile?: Ceramic tile can not be refinished to have different look. If you do not like the tile, you will need to tear it out and put new tile down. There are many choices available. I would reccomend a porcelaine tile, beacuse they are stronger and more durable than cearmic.

Q:Which tile is best Porcelain or ceramic for a concrete floor?: Either will be fine for a residential setting. Installed properly both will last for years to come. Neither will break if installed properly if something is dropped on them. You can possible get top chips if a heavy object is dropped and both will show the inner body core unless you buy a true porcelain and not the average porcelain glazed tile. Unless you have major moisture problems tile can be used any time. Some moisture ( if any) will wick up and dissipate as normal. Q:This is a new house and they put 16 inch tiles in the bathrooms, which I don't care for. The floors are fine as far as leveling goes, but I would like to put 12 inch tiles directly over the 16 inch ones. Would there be any problems?: A side from raising the floor up and you looking at how it will come out at the doorway ( only you can judge that), you can do this just fine if done properly. Tile thats down now , make sure it is down secure. It probably is but with a new house time hasn t gone by long enough to see signs that tell you its down tight. Should you do this and its perfectly fine , you ll need to do just a few things special. Don t get the regular enhanced thin set go at least a step up. Pricing will help you dictate this. Floor must be clean and dry. As you go over it use the flat side of the trowel to coat over it all , this will fill in the grout joints , if its a bit low. Then use your 1/4 x3/8 ths trowels to spread thin set. Let set an extra day or 2 before walking on it since the thinset needs extra drying time in this situation. Q:IAM REDOING MY KITCHEN FLOOR. IS PEEL STICK TILE GOOD FOR THE PROJECT N WILL IT LAST? THANKS: They will stick, but, you need to fill in all the cracks and damaged areas to get a nice smooth even surface first. If you don't, the tiles will sag into those areas and crack. If the floors are really in bad shape you can put luan (not sure of spelling) plywood down before you tile. Luan is only 1/4 inch thick and the last time I used it it was about $10 for a 4x8 sheet. If you hired a pro to install the floor they would probably recommend doing it that way.

Q:We are redecorating our bathroom. We are on a very limited budget. We can‘t afford to rip out the old tiles and put in new, so we‘re wondering if there is something we can do to make them look new and/or different. Such as painting them? That was my idea, but not sure that tiles can be painted? Can they? And if so how? What exact steps do we need to do to paint the tiles? Or any other ideas on making them look better? Thanks in advance.: I've used several off the shelve tile cleaners and many of them work wonderfully. However, if you have ugly tile, not just dirtly tile, then a cleaner is not going to do the trick. Painting tiles is a very short term solution. Paint will not last long on a tile surface. When it starts coming off you're likely to have something that's even worse. The cost of replacing the tiles yourself will be very low, ultimately depending on the surface underneath the tile and your choice of tile. I've done it a few times in my own house and have found that good looking tile floors are one of the easier do-it-yourself jobs. It seems a lot more difficult than it turns out to be. The cost of a book, one day rental of a tile cutting saw, tile of your choice, and other supplies should only run you about $100 to $200 and yet the results will be truly remarkable. I'd count on a good three days if this is your first tile job. This sounds like a lot of time, but you'll only have problems if you're in a hurry -- so don't rush it.

Q:Hi, I am thinking about placing vinyl wood planks over the existing ceramic tile in my house and I wanted to know if it‘s possible. The tile isn‘t completely level due to the grout and obviously not all the tiles are exactly the same height down to the millimeter. I wanted to know 1. Is it possible to install vinyl wood plank over ceramic tile, 2. If so how level the tile floor has to be, 3. How would I go about leveling the floor, with an underlayment or with some sort of mortar, 4. If I use an underlayment do I still need to use the mortar to level the tile?Thank you.: While its always best to remove the tile and start with a fresh base for a new sub floor for the vinyl tile. This can be done .. You need to go over the tile with whats called an embossing leveler.. This will allow the vinyl to not show the grout lines. The high spots can be knocked down or floated so its barely noticeable. . By the time you do all this and the chance that you don t get any uneven tile floated out, your better off taking every thing out and do it proper. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.
