Q:Ok we are remodeling our kitchen and have the area between the counter tops and the bottom of the upper cabinets that is currently some ugly green tiles. Very small ones at that. We do not want the hassle to remove these and try to replace with something more attractive. We are looking for solutions to just cover the tiles with something d-i-y and not too expensive. I have seen a lot of peel and stick stuff but don't know if it can be used on tiles. Please give suggestions!: I okorder /

I want to replace home carpeting with tiles or vynal. which one is less slippery? thanks: I m assuming you mean ceramic tiles. Texture or not even tiles can be slippery. What you need to check on tiles is the COF rating or slip resistance. There are tiles that are smooth and can have a rating of 5 ( highest and very few have this rating) which is a commercial rated tile, good for malls and where the public walks on them a lot. 3/4 is the most common for residential and you can find these are very common. Most all tiles 8 or larger is at least a 3 rating. Not all but most all. Take into account all hard surfaces are slippery when wet or you have wet feet and there may also be a sealer or coating on vinyl at work ( especially if theres an out side janitorial service cleaning them) that is making the surface slick too. Your best bet is to look for roofing supply businesses in your local yellow pages. If it turns out to be impossible to get the exact same tile, a substitute can always be found. If the tiles you need replaced are on a highly visible part of the house, consider removing tiles from another part of the house to make the repair match, and use the new tiles in the less visible area. I went online and found several manufacturers of this stuff.GUY 2: Scoffed at this and said there was no other way than retiling the whole kitchen.Guy 1 is adamant that it can be done, and the job will last if enough care is taken in preparing the surface.Is he right?Has anyone tried this ‘re-enamelling‘ technique, and were the results OK?Thanks!: Ok yes you can paint them, and yes it will hold up, and yes i do paint and also install ceramic so i do know what im talking about.You need to clean them very good with TSP. Buy a good primer such as kilz but i think home depot has an even better one so check that out. After you prime it put oon a good interior enamal like Behr . Probable 2 coats for best results. A spong roller is best but if you can rent or borrowe a sprayer and get the best results. there about 40 dollars for the day to rent. easy to use. Just tape everything off and use alot of drop cloths.

Q:How to look at tile quality?: First listen to the sound the more brittle the better, followed by the water to see, the bubble the smaller the better.

Q:Would they be easy to remove and not damage the floor (ugly linoleum) when I have to move out at the end of the year?: Peel and stick tiles are supposed to stick. They don't always stick very well but if they do you might have some trouble getting them or the adhesive off the original floor. I wouldn't do this. All kinds of vinyl flooring are intended to be more or less permanent, not something you take with you when you move. You could get a sheet of vinyl and put it on the floor, sticking it down at the edges with double sided tape. You could get a piece of carpet, or carpet tiles. But honestly, you are in temporary accommodation. Can't you live with what's there for this relatively short time?

Put it on bathroom tiles but it is all chipping off and doesnt look pretty: if you painted right over ceramic tile it should come off with a razor blade scraper -- if the paint is in the grout you may never get it off there-- not sure what type of paint you used -- some oil paints can be removed with laquer thinner or paint thinner ---
