Q:I am going to be removing ceramic tile in my kitchen and was wondering what the easiest way to go about it was? I was going to use a hammer and a flat ended screw driver, what do you think?: the thing i have found about removing tiles is that you i am never able to remove them without breaking them so i think just go with your insticnts and get the hammer and chizzel to it.

Q:I have a bunch of bottle caps and I thought it might be cool to encase them in some type of clear material so I could use them for tiles in my shower. Is it even possible to do that?: If you have a tile size , sure make the mold just a hair smaller than the tile. Same if your just replacing a few and making the bottle cap tile as a deco tile. Just use a white thin set and completely smooth coat over the back so you see a all white back ground through your deco.. The use of a extra modified thin set is required because this wouldn t be much different than setting glass tiles. GL

Q:We just bought an old house and the previous owners did a really poor paint job. I scratched off some paint on the tiles in the breakfast nook and the original tile looks really nice. I want to remove the rest of the paint without damaging the tiles.: Try using a Heat Gun. Cheap or rentable locally. They lift paint beautifully. Ask the guys that sell/rent what they think. It depends on what kind of paint. It's probubly enamel. There are solvents that will lift that stuff like you wouldn't believe. Wear gloves, eye protect, and reperator if you can't get good ventilation. Othewise you'll lift the inside of your nose too! Scraper or putty knife will peel it all away.

Q:I‘m redoing my shower and want a tile floor at least. The bottom of the floor is about 6‘x6‘. I either want big tiles or the smaller tiles that are already connected on the back of them. Ideas?: You need smaller tiles for the floor because of the slope it should have so the water will drain. Home depot carries the very basic sheets of small floor tiles. It's not a very expensive project and if you take your time and do it right it should last you many years. If you want to tile the walls around the shower go big! Less grout lines, less tile and it will make the shower look huge. Good luck!!

Q:in the process of shopping i am coming across made in china flooring tiles, are these products durable, are they reliable, will there be a quaility issue with long term use? can anyone recommend a tile that is manufactered in the U.S.? there are so many different tiles on the market it is hard to choose, should we even be using a porcelean tile, what about vinyl sheet goods? this is a bathroom application..5‘ wide 7‘ deep: Several types of tile are made in the US. Some include Florida Tile, American Olean some Laufen tile are made here. You don t necessarily need a 12x12 , you may want to consider a smaller tile in that space. Even some of the makers listed above import the tile from Turkey, China, Italy etc. Over the years I haven t done much China made tile so I can t honestly comment on that. Almost any tile made ( almost) will be fine in a residential bathroom setting. Porcelain tiles are fine but normal ceramics will also work well. Vinyl sheet goods will also work fine in a bathroom. They come in 6 and 12 ft goods, so a 6x7 foot pc will work excellent for you since you won t scrap out much and you ll be seamless. Q:I‘m going to be putting in a tile floor in my kitchen (all cabinets and appliances removed). I have done my research and have a good idea of what I will be doing - beef up the subfloor with plywood and lots of screws for rigidity; use cement based self leveler to correct a mild slope; install backerboard or decoupling membrane (not sure which yet) followed by the tile.I have a plan, but plans tend to fall apart after their first run-in with reality. Has anyone run into types of problems they don‘t talk about on DIY network? The types of problems complete the following kinds of sentences: are you f***ing kidding me? You have to do ____ before ___? or dammit, why don‘t they tell you you need [insert name of specialized gadget] on a product that cures in 10 minutes? or boy was I an idiot for doing/not doing [insert critically important but not obvious tiling procedure here].?Much obliged, and thanks for the responses.: Before okorder /. Q:The shiny surface ceramic tile is set unto a cement slab - it has been there 15 years or more with no cracks. Do I need to rough up the surface before I set the tile- if so how? I have tried sanding it (60 grit), wire brushing it - there is no effect on the surface. Also I live in a small town - we do have a Home Depot - do they sell a good bonding agent? If so what? Thank-you for your answer!: To go over tile I ve used both Flex Bond and VesaBond thinset made by Custom Building products, Both are usually sold at Home Depot.. One suggestion when tiling over tile, allow a few extra days drying time before any foot traffic on the new tile . Moisture has no where to go when doing this and extra drying time IS required. Do NOT add a latex additive if you use a polymer type thin set, only a latexed based thin set.. No sanding is generally needed, just a clean , oil and grease free tile.
