Q:Tile for a leopard gecko habitat?
I have slate tiles in my geckos 20 gallon long tank and I love it, its been a great substrate so far. It was pretty cheap I believe I paid like $10 bucks for 3 tiles. Alot of leo owners use slate tiles because of how natural it looks like you mentioned and easy to clean. He loves it and lays his belly on the tiles for heat Its very easy to clean just scoop the poop or use wet paper towels to clean. And yes it is good to use sand underneath the tiles to block some of the extra heat, because UTH's can get hot. I used about 5 small bags for my 20 long, and it reaches 90 degrees which is great. Measure the 10 gallon and try to get the biggest slate tiles that will fit. I filled in the cracks with sand so crickets cant get into the cracks. I filled the extra space on the sides of the tank with small rocks over the sand and it looks great, (home depot didnt have tiles that would fit the whole terraium). But overall slate tiles have been the best substrate Ive used so far so much better then reptile carpet and so much easier to clean.
Q:How hard is it to lay tile?
We've done a lot of tile work and have learned a lot. Most books and websites have all the inof you need to know. If it's your 1st job, don't get too crazy w/the design, which can require more cutting. BUT, we have learned that the REAL CHEAP (like under .99/sq. ft.) tile from the superstores is hard to work w/since each tile it NOT the same size. This makes it hard to get straight grout lines. The tile we have bought from the tile stores have been better quality and youn can still find nice stuff in the .99 - $1.50 sq. ft. range. They are also a wealth of information! Good luck.
Q:TILES! i need a tile expert here! CAN ANYONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE QUALITY OF TILES?
Tiles that are glazed on the top of a terra cotta base are cheapest. If the glaze chips, the underlying terra cotta base will be an eyesore. Tiles that are ceramic all the way through are best. Look for tiles that are the same color underneath as the glaze is on top. Tip: If you can convince the tile setter to set them diagonally, you will be forever grateful. It costs more, but it's worth it. Honest.
Q:Can I remove a bathroom tile without breaking it?
Possibly easier solution: look for some decorative tiles that would go ok in the place of those damaged ones... just a few to randomly place as accents (of course, this depends on where the broken tiles are). Possibilities include glass tiles, contrast tiles, patterned tiles, and embossed tiles, as well as tiles matching in tone but of a radically different texture. If you want to see how a particular tile might look on the wall in advance, take a digital photo of each tile you're interested in, resize to life size) and tape prints over each tile you want to replace. Yes, you can do as you propose. My experience with removing tiles for re-use are that I seem to get between a 40 and 70% yield of useable tile when I try to salvage 4x4 tiles. Depends on how good the initial mastic was.
Q:Tile Calculation Help!!?
you need 24.25 sq yds ..go to your tile shop ask how many sq yds are in a box ..divide that by 24.25 ..there's your answer ...if in uk thats 20.04 sq mtrs
Q:How hard is it to remove a ceramic tile floor? It is on a wood base.?
If the tile was laid properly, it can be time consuming. Yes, part of the cost of laying tile is in removing the old tile floor first. Never tile over tile. That's asking for trouble, plus it raises the floor height. I'd recommend getting a heavy steel mallet or hammer and renting an electric tile jack hammer. It plugs in and has a flat blade attachment that hammers away under the tile to lift it. While it may cost you money, it will save you time and muscle fatigue. Use the hammer to crack the tile before you use the electric tile hammer. It will go a lot faster.
Q:Questions about installing marble floor tile?
Marble tile floors have been around for centuries. Even today, in an age of much simpler and less expensive options, marble remains synonymous with elegance and class. Installing marble is more complicated than installing ceramic or other types of tiles because the marble can't be cut on a standard tile cutter, instead needing a wet saw. Also, since the tiles are straight-cut in their manufacture, the tile surfaces have to be completely even with one another.
Q:Screws in Ceramic tile?
They make drill bits specifically for tile. They have a sharper point than the normal masonry bits. You can drill through the tile and then into the wall. Make sure that the anchor is in the drywall and not just the tile, any weight on the tile itself will eventually pull it off the wall. Small toggle bolts work, but they require a larger hole to be drilled. Make sure you do not tighten whatever you use too much and crack the tile. The very best thing you could do would be to put screws into a stud behind the drywall, but finding one can be extremely difficult under tile. You don't want to use a hammer drill like you would in drilling into concrete or mortar, the percussion would break the tile, a regular drill will work fine.
Q:How to fix just one flooring tile?
I assume it's ceramic tiles, not vinyl? It's probably the wood subfloor or wood tile underlayment, you can use some wood screws underneath the floor to tighten the plywood to the floor joists. Of course, that might mean opening up the ceiling below, but that's probably easier to patch than the tile floor. Or, you remove some of the tile grout, and screw into the joist from above, then re-grout. That could be tricky- you need to know exactly where the floor joists are.
Q:how to measure the bathroom for tiles?
Measure Length and width then multiply the two measurements. This will give you the square footage for how many tiles you will need. When you go to buy- the carton will tell you how many square feet comes within the box. You should always start tiles at the center. This way if there are any tiles that need trimming, they will be at the edges of the wall and not in direct sight.
