Q:The tile is attached to sheetrock and I don‘t want to damage the sheetrock by ripping off the old tile.: your better off ripping the old tile off, if you rip the bottom of the sheetrock off you should cover it with trim besides trim will make the tiles stand out more

Q:i going to tile my whole house both floors bath room and all with the same tile it is a 20x20 tile diagonally where should i start and does it really matter where ?: Start doing the largest area and do a 1/2 tile on the out side wall. All interior walls are supposed to be layed out to the out side and be square. Now if you have a long visible hall way near by, you may want to split that to get a good look at it from there. Its hard to positively say with out seeing it. I could visualize it then. Since this is a diagonal you cant control to much where the tiles land. Q:I have ceramic tile in my bathroom and I don‘t like it. It‘s extra slippery and very cold in the winter. Yes I do use a rug but the parts that are exposed are cold. I want to put those peel-n-stick tiles on top of them, but what do I have to do to prepare the floor if it‘s even possible to do this? Thanks in advance for any tips and advice!: Yeah, Ryder's intuition is right. You can't put peel-n-sticks ( or any other vinyl) on top of ceramic. You can although, have a good carpet shop make up a custom fit rug (from ordinary wall to wall carpeting) that will cover your entire bathroom floor. We've made thousands of them. You keep the resale value of your tile, and it goes away at the same time. ...a really good shop can even make you a matching toilet seat cover to match your rug...

Q:I am making a movie for school and i need to hang things from our ceiling to the ground. The problem is is that the ceiling is an acoustic tile and i‘m not sure if it will hold enough. (This is one of the older acoustic tiles with all of the holes in them.: Been there, done that... Can't happen. What you can do, however, is go to the hardware store and buy new ones OR if replacing them is out of the question, get a can of KILZ paint primer. It is the best stain blocker on the planet. Once you cover it with Kilz, it WILL still show through the Kilz, itself, but once you have one or two coats of regular pain over it, you will never see the blood again.

Q:I just grouted the ceramic tiles I laid in my kitchen. The grout was supposed to be a dark maroon color, but it turned out a whitish powdery color (efflorescence). What is the main cause of this...it can't be water coming from underneath the tiles because the basement is underneath the kitchen floor...unless it came from the mortar under the kitchen tiles. How do I get rid of the efflorescence. Grout cleaner didn't work...should I use salfamic (spelling?) acid and scrub the grout lines? Can J just refloat new grout over the existing grout? HELP...I need to put my base cabinets in, but I can't stand looking at my floor the way it is.: You need to go to a regular tile shop and get the cleaner made for this. The cause of it can be many , for not mixing enough to washing it w/ to much water during grouting. Regular grout cleaner won t cut it. There are several brands that do this so going to XYZ tile place and asking for something they may not have that brand but a brand they use on occasion or a brand available to them. HD does carry a bottle called Remove by Hydroment . You may want to try that And you cannot just grout over it the grout will not adhere and stay, it doesn t have enough to grab onto. Q:We are about to install 450 sq ft of 18x18 inch travertine tile on an indoor concrete floor and I need as much information about the installation process as possible. I have done a number of ceramic tile jobs, but never laid travertine. Some of the questions I have are:1. is it best to use spacers and grout, or butt the tiles?2. if I use spacers, what size should I use?3. should I apply a coat of sealer to the tiles before laying them?4. what size notched trowel should I use and at what angle?5. how many coats of sealer, brand and type of finish is recommended?6. Q:Hi, I just wanted to know if Ceramic tiles are better than stone tiles? When we signed a contract for a new house, they offered us Stone tiles, but now they are calling us and telling that they do not offer stone tiles instead ceramic tiles are now standard. I wanted to know which one is better and why?: Ceramic tile is cheaper than stone but we have installed ceramic or porcelain tiles in all bathrooms for the ease of upkeep. Stone does look richer but it needs to be sealed at least once a year maybe more. The sealing part is easy but the stone tile needs to be completely clean first. That is the 'hard work' part. Ceramic tile will hold up to almost anything in a bathroom and the grout is the only thing that needs sealing. (You'd probably have grout to seal with the stone too) If you signed for stone, I'd make sure that they are going to give you some kind of refund for the difference of the cost. They are saving a a few bucks here so make them pass it on.
