Q:How to grout tile on mirror?
Grout application on a mirror is exactly the same process as grouting a tile floor, back-splash, counter top, or table. Since the mirror is standing, I'd be sure that the mirror won't topple over when applying the grout because it has to be floated into the crevices between the tiles / tile pieces. If possible I'd suggest laying the mirror flat, either on the floor or on a sturdy worktable A grout float is basically a block shaped pushing tool used to force the grout between the tiles. Hold the float at an angle against the tiled surface and use a firm sweeping motion across the tile to push/force the grout into all the nooks, crannies, cracks and openings between the tiles. You'll have to work fairly quickly because grout becomes hard to work once it starts drying out. Work in a diagonal pattern and go back over any low or missed areas. Allow the grout to sit for 20-30 minutes. You'll know the grout is starting to cure when there is a light haze on the tile surface. Using a sponge and a bucket of clean water lightly buff the tile to remove the haze. This step may have to be repeated once or twice to be sure that all of the excess grout has been removed from the tile surface. If you want to seal the grout and tile, there are a number of sealant products available but you'll need to wait 3 or 4 days before applying in order to allow the grout to cure properly.
Q:tiling over vinyl?
Strip the floor down to the plywood or whatever it's made of. Use a level to see if the floor needs to be leveled out. Then set the tiles and use mortar.
Q:Bathtub wall tile?
Wow, Hi Steve, My opinion, and I haven't read any other answers yet, Green board is fine for walls adjacent to areas that may endure water intrusion, but not as a substrate to install tile over. I understand it has been done, and certainly was an offered option before backer board was introduced, but it's water resistant properties are negligible. I do tile, every day of my life, and I get it that the customer is always right, even when they aren't, but I never had a negative call back, nor do I wish one for you, even years from now. Another positive aspect of the concrete backer board is texture; a surface allowing better adhesion for thin set, which green board does not offer. Good to see you again. I was beginning to wonder if you'd gotten lost in the SMOKIES. Steven Just my two sense
Q:Installing ceramic floor tiles?
Not a good idea to try and use the adhesive in that manner to close up that gap.. The adhesive will be approximately an 1/8 th inch.. You ll find no floor is perfectly flat and no base board it truly straight. You asked for other options and the 2 best are to either use a shoe or trim molding after the tile is installed or to take off the base and re use it after the tile is on.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
Q:best way to apply epoxy tile grout??
1. Why epoxy?, it will take longer to apply, will be messy and won't give you the opportunity to allow it to go under bare spot of your tile. 2. I would take it back and get regular grout. 3. Sounds like your going for a good seal and the best way to do that is regular grout and a grout sealer. 4. If you still want to use it, tape around all tiles, wear rubber gloves (surgical tight fitting type) and have a bucket of water handy. Apply epoxy about half of what you need, wet finger and push into cracks, then add more and smooth with wet finger. The whole process should take about an hour for a 4x4 section when you can grout a whole room in a half hour with regular grout. One last thing to consider, if you ever crack a tile it will be next to impossible to replace just one without breaking others around it, but with regular grout it would be relatively easy.
Q:Tiling over greenboard?
you really should just replace the green board with wonder board.Grout sealer does nothing on drywall, whoever told you to do that is full of ****.grout sealer is for grout joints.Sealing is done AFTER tile is installed and grouted. If you leave the green board, just scrape the old glue off with a putty knife, and any loose paper, gently remove it.If there are gaps or gouges in the drywall, fill them in with joint compound ,let it dry and sand off any high spots. Installing cement board over existing drywall is not a good idea,it creates a space between the two for moisture and mold. And it creates a higher edge at the shower sides where tile edging is needed, and it will not work properly.
Q:What is the best paint to paint over tile?
I'm guessing that you're looking for total coverage and not just for a small decorative purpose. In that case, it's really all about the prep work you put into it. Wash the tiles down with a TSP mixture, to remove any oil residue off the tile and wash that off afterwards, making sure it's dry. Then apply a primer to the tiles. I've personally found the Glidden Gripper primer to work best at covering ceramic/porcelain. Give that about 24 hours to set once you apply it. You can then cover it with your choice of paint and sheen. I would highly recommend a glossy paint though so it stands up to water; a satin or semi-gloss will work best. Using a foam roller is also a good idea, as this will give it the smoothest finish possible. I would however only recommend this for -wall- applications. It's not meant to be done on the floor and in that case you are better off with a skim coat of concrete and starting with a different type of floor. Painting it won't hold up over time, unless it's an epoxy type paint, but those are more formulated for masonry. Hope this helps!~
Q:tiling and gouting bathroom?
It is in your wrist movement, so if you put too much on the float or do not move quickly it falls off the float. As long as you filled all the joints and then wiped it down you should be fine
Q:How long to tile small space?
Tiling over the original tile is not a good idea. The door in your entry way will most likely hit anyway. The time involved will mostly be in the prep of the area ie taking up the old tile and thin set. After that is done mixing the new thin set and laying the new tile should go rather quickly. You then have to wait 24hrs to grout the tile. The actual tiling should only take a couple of hours and then of course the time till you can grout.
Q:How do I repair this broken tile?
Remove as much of the old stuff that you need to fit it back flush with the rest of the tiles then apply thick bed adhesive to the mesh and to the clean part of the tile and ease it on.
