Q:Ho do you redo tiles?
I okorder.com/ Good luck!
Q:Where can find a tile cutting service? ?
A lot of places that sell tile will do this service. Home depot and Lowes does too. I believe , but not sure they charge for all cuts but call them to check their policy. A lot of places that sell tile will do it for a small fee. When I had my store we cut a customers tile ( if they bought it from us) for free , up to ten cuts and then a dollar a cut after that. Or a dollar a cut if they bought the tile some where else. Call tile store or where you bought the tile. You may have to leave it until a installer comes back at night or on occasion I took tile to the job site and cut it the next day. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:Tiling Floors and Counters. Same or different tile?
All your tile selections should co-ordinate but do not need to match exactly. I like the big tiles on the floor but not on the counters and back splash. The large tile will make those areas seem out of scale. I'd go with a similar tile but in a smaller size on the counter and back splash and see if you can find some accent tile to work into your design of the back splash. All it takes is a band of something like natural stone, glass tile or a textured tile to kick it up a notch and by using the more expensive tile sparingly, you're not increasing your costs but certainly increasing the eye appeal.
Q:Tiled over electrical outlet what can I do?
I'm guessing you probably put backer board down and forgot to cut the receptacle hole. If you can figure out which tile it's behind you can strike the tile in the center hard enough to break it and then use a hammer and chisel to chisel out the pieces. The backer board will chisel out easily. If you don't know the exact location you may have to remove more than one. That's OK because the mortar is probably still a little soft. The other option would be to use a 4 grinder and cutting wheel to cut the tile and backer board out with. If all that works out then you'll probably need to replace the outlet with a GFCI outlet if it's near a water source. Good luck
Q:How to restore hazy patches in porcelain floor tile?
Glazed porcelain or a true porcelain? If it is a glazed porcelain ( my guess) and you have spots that are un glazed, this is a manufacture defect and the tile (s) will have to be replaced. If this is just a grout haze there are cleaning methods you can do to get the grout ff. But other than that, there is nothing you can do other than replace tiles. If you bought the tiles at a regular flooring store, the manager or sales rep from that tile maker should be sent out to inspect it. With out knowing more its hard to say what else you can do. Any questions you cn e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Tile backsplash?
a lot of different types of tiles are mounted on a mesh backing. they are usually small tiles on 12x12 sheets or oblong design pieces used as a border or transition. if you saw sheets or tile with a mesh backing that had a piece of paper that peeled off, then chances are it's glass tile. the mesh goes toward the wall and paper peeled off after installation. glass tiles are the only tiles i've seen with the paper layer on them. they can be rather pricey--usually between $20-35 per foot. check with your local tile distributor and look at their selection of glass tiles and see what else they might off that catches your fancy. :) good luck!
Q:Should i tile right to the floor?
Baseboard goes on top of the tile. The tile doesn't have to run clear to the floor, but does have to come down far enough to be covered by the baseboard. Then you will have to shim the bottom of the wall to keep the base from tilting. This will leave room for nailing without hitting the tile. If the tile runs all the way to the floor, place your nails so they are going thru the grout line in between the tiles.
Q:Removing HARDENED concrete from tile?
You can buy Muric Acid, a weak form of Hydrochloric acid, at your local home improvement store. It should be in the same area as other solvents, such as acetone and mineral spirits, near the paint section. It is sold for this purpose. It should not harm the tile, but will dissolve concrete, grout, and your skin, so be careful with it. You should wear a respirator, long sleeves and pants, and have a lot of ventilation when using this product. You will need to rinse the area very well after you are done. Have baking soda on hand in case you spill any. It will inactivate the acid.
Q:Can I Tile over cracked concrete outside?
First deal with the cracks. They are normal if they were caused over time by the concrete just settling. If you go to the hardware store you will want to find some crack repairing compounds. They are like concrete and mortar and should be in that section. They contain a rubber based martix which will bend and flex instead of breaking and fill cracks easily. Make sure you put down a even layer of mortar before you begin tiling and it should be okay to tile.
Q:Tile Floor help?
Yes, okorder.com/... Can I offer some free advice? Once you start painting that floor there is no turning back. It would be almost impossible to remove the paint if you don't like the way it looks and you would probably just have to rip the flooor out or put another flooring over the top of it. If I was thinking about doing this, I would get some similar tiles and just lay them on a piece of plywood in the garage and do a quick grout job. It doesn't have to be perfect. I would do some testing with paint and urethane to see how it looks and how well it will hold up to wear. Lastly, if you decide this just isn't worth it the obvious and simple thing to do is use area rugs to bring in the colors you want.
