As shown in Figure4,there are two elastic O-ring in the valve seat ring-ring A and ring B.Sealing ring A spring-loaded through the valve seat so that the sealing surface of sealing ring A tightly fit with ball surface to form an initial seal.When there is pressure in the system medium,the piston force

)The assisted valve seat sealing equipment
Based on the actual service condition,medium requirement,sealing requirement,etc.,the assisted valve sealing equipment will be considered to be necessary or not.The assisted valve sealing equipment is a one-way valve installed outside of valve body that can prevent medium leakage and can inject sealing grease into valve body by external force.When the assisted valve seat sealing equipment is required,valve seat ring shall be design and processed with injection grove and hole to connect the assisted valve seat sealing equipments.Such equipment can prevent the medium by the sealing of injection of rease.Refer to Figure5 for reference.

Multi-level structure of stem sealing 
Figure6 shows the stem multi-level sealing by adopting"O"ring,flexible graphite and grease injection;"O"ring achieves the first level stem sealing;Replaceable flexible graphite realizes the second level sealing by the compression of packing sleeve and packing flange;And the third evel sealing is realized by installing assisted sealing injection valve to the packing box,and by designing with the injection groove and hole to connect with the stem injection valve,which can inject grease.

As shown in figure7,there is composite fireproof ring,which are combined with graphite and stainless steel wire in the seat.Once the soft ring is burnt out in case of a fire,the fireproof ring and seat ring will form a piston structure through the spring to load the valve body.That will push and closely contact the metal seal surface of the seat ring to the body surface,So as to prevent a lot of medium from leaking from the burnt place of the seat ring,and prevent the fire from expending.

In which case the old guide hole will have to be drilled out and the guide hole honed, new bronze / nickel or hardened steel guides pressed back in. An ordinary valve job is relatively straight forward and easy but the labor involved with the tear down a new head and valve cover gasket without valve guide repair will run nearly $1,000 at a BMW dealership and 20 -30% less at a private mechanics shop. Most private mechanics AND dealerships do not do the actual valve job. The cylinder head with the valves are sent out to an automotive engine machine shop where the actual work is done. The dealer or private mechanic does the disassembly and reassembly of the head back on the block and gets the car running again.

Blow off valve or dump valves are used on cars with large turbos. Their function is to keep the turbo spinning during gear changes or on the over-run. Because they are driven by the exhaust gas the turbo has a lag (delay), it takes time so spin up or slow down compared to the engine speed. The bigger the turbo in relation to the engine, the bigger the lag. By dumping the excess pressure it keeps the turbo spinning reducing the lag when you get back on the throttle. It will have no effect on power on small turbos so all these boy racers you see in civics have wasted their time and money. PS The noise it makes, I think is PTCHOO!

Valves have to have some clearance when the engine is cold so that as the stems expand the valves will still close all the way. Most of the wear in the valve train occurs at the valve and seat, as the seat tends to recede and the valve pulls further into the head.(SOHC and OHV designs may also wear in the rocker arms and bushings, which tends to open the valve clearances, usually not as quickly as valve seat wear, however.) As an inevitable result of this wear at the seat/valve juncture, the gap between the valve stem (or bucket or shim) and the cam lobe (or rocker arm) tends to close down. If the gap is too small, the valve may not close all the way when the engine is warm. If the valve does not have enough contact with the seat, it cannot transfer heat away, and may erode. There can also be a loss of compression if the valve cannot close. This wear happens most rapidly with a new engine and the valve clearances tend to close up relatively quickly. As the parts bed in, clearances tend to stabilize. That is why the first one or two valve adjustments are most important.

I assume you are asking about a centrifugal compressor being driven by a gas turbine. You didn't state the service the compressor was in but it is possible in some services for the centrifugal compressor to add a load to the gas turbine's output shaft during the starting cycle. By having the valves closed, there is only the load from compressor wheels) and shaft being accelerated to operating speed. This would permit the gas turbine controls more lee way to get the turbine speed under control before adding significant load to the output shaft. Another consideration is the need to load the compressor in a manner that would get it past the surge point and into a stable operating regime. This can best be done with the compressor at operating speed and a fairly quick addition of load.
