Q:I would like to know how difficult it is to change a water pump on my mustang? Is it something I can do by myself? I do know about cars and can perform general maintenance, I am not totally ignorant to whats going on underneath the hood of my car I'm just not sure if I have the tools needed and how difficult it is to do. What tools do I need? Do I need a torque wrench? If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks!
This is a straightforward task that can be difficult for the novice, but it's not impossible. You will need basic automotive hand tools, wrenches, sockets in metric. Also, you will need a good shop manual for this car. A torque wrench is optional, most professional mechanics don't torque the fasteners involved with this job. Take pictures of the engine from various angles, it will help in reassembly. Don't forget to disconnect the battery also. Be certain to draw a diagram of how the serpentine belt(s) are routed around the pulleys, if no such aid exists on the radiator support. By all means buy a reputable brand NEW pump, don't bother with a rebuilt unit. With some mechanical knowledge and basic common sense you can do this, take your time, don't rush. Good Luck !
Q:my water pump has gone south on me and I want to repair it myself any ideas on how to will be greatly appreciated, do to space between the water pump of the engine and the chasi or body of the van that makes working on thi vehicle kind of difficult any knoledgeable instruction will be welcome. thanks for the help. I am in California, the name is Elmer
drain cooling system, remove the fan belt. Remove the lower radiator hose, Remove nut from both front motor mounts. Remove alternator. Disconnect power steering pump pressure hose. Disconnect heater outlet tube from waterpump. Remove AC compressor front bracket, leaving compressor in place. jack up left side of motor about 5 inches. Remove waterpump bolts and nuts. Remove the drive belt tensioner pulley. remove the power steering pump with the hose still attached to it. and position it off to the side. Now remove the waterpump and gasket! reinstall in reverse order. This is taken from the Mitchell Repair Software.
Q:I Need a water pump, no matter its fountain pump or high stream pump. But the things or you can say the parameters i required in that pump is, 2 inch minimum outlet from where the water come out, pressure 130 or above (in PSI) runs wid a 1 or 2 Horse Powered motor not more then 2HP. And the pressure calculation is flow of the water (130 Psi) , like while water is streaming out.Any one who can sugest some water pumps which can fulfill or near or above to my requirements. thanks alot sir for you kind time.
With 100M of 'head' you're going to need a constant displacement pump, and high pressure piping. I'd consider an intermediate lift station.
Q:I've been looking online and can't find anywhere that tells me how to replace the water pump in my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0. Help please.
Go down to your local Auto Parts Store and ask for a Hayne's Manual for your car, this will show pics and explain in detail how to do just about ANYTHING on your car!
Q:mercury 9.8hp.installed a new water pump impeller and still no water circulating through engine. no blockage anywhere. now what??? i`m stumped at this point.
I have seen this many times on 9.87.5Merc'sThere is a plastic o-ring under the power head and it is probablly melted closed. There is a way to fix it without removing the powerhead.Remove the lower unit and pull out the water pickup tube. Then use a piece of brake line 5/16th sharpen on a 45 degree angle and push up the opening for the water pickup to open the passage. This will fix your water problem.
Q:Yang Chengtai big, the pump power is too small, the water pump will be bad?
Related to water pump structure, when the pump head is higher than the rated pump head, the current will increase, the water discharged from the pump impeller, back to the inlet of water from between the impeller and the casing exceeds the rated value, if it is a high lift pump, clearance between the impeller and the casing is small, the water pump current increases with increasing lift, current too much faster than the rated value, the motor will burn; if it is a low lift pump design, when the clearance between the impeller and the casing of the strict requirements, and even some of the water pump, the outlet is blocked, the pump will not burn. The drinking water pump used on the table, generally used non-toxic latex diaphragm pump, the head is too much, will damage the diaphragm part, the motor because the circuit has protection, the motor is not easy to damage. Generally do not risk good, according to the actual situation, select the appropriate lift, suction pump.Yang Chengtai large! If the pump power is too small! The pump will break! But not necessarily bad, mainly determined by the pump structure.
Q:I need a water pump for a 1930 Chrysler Roadster and have no idea where to get one. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the plug Howard! Although the Imperial club does not sell or distribute any parts, there are some good resources and tips there. What I do recommend is that you buy a copy of Hemmings and look up some of the services out there that are water pump specialists. Your water pump is a very unique one in that it probably has not been available since WWII. So careful rebuilding of the original one in your car is key.
Q:i learned from wikipedia that the water pumps back to reactor where it is heated again and the cycle begins again. but then i saw this diagram
Its clear enough. The water is heated and changed to steam in steam generators. Then the steam is used to turn the turbines to form energy. The steam is then condensed using cold water. The condensed steam or water is then 'pumped back to the steam generator' to create steam and the cycle continues. Need any more help ? feel free to mail me.
Q:I am trying to increase the pressure of my shower and I am looking to install a water pump. Does anyone know what kind of pump would work well for this? I don't want a big pressure pump, just a small one that will be cheap.
American Standard has a shower head with a turbine in it. Get that. its made for low flow applications.
Q:I have a 2002 Honda Civic Ex sedan with about 105k miles. Sometime before 110k I need to get the timing belt replaced. At about 95k my mechanic asked if I wanted to replace the timing belt and the water pump. According to the owners manual the timing belt must be replaced, but it simply says check the water pump.I don't want to pay for unnecessary repairs, but I also know that both of these jobs are quite involved, but can be done together fairly easily. Is there anything I can do to check myself or do I just have to trust my mechanic when I take it in. Also, what is the cost difference between the timing belt job and adding in the water pump at the same time?
If you're going to have the timing belt changed you might as well change the water pump at the same time - it would take about the same amount of effort and cash in the future to just replace the water pump alone if it goes bad. On a Honda with over 100k miles, it's just a matter of time before the water pump goes - so I'd say that it's a good idea to change it now, even if it's not showing any signs of failure. You'd just end up paying for the work twice if you don't do it now - assuming that you're planning on keeping the car for a while. I'm not sure how much a water pump would cost for your car, but you could look it up on the web - additional labor costs to install it during the timing belt change would be minimal.
