- Q:I am considering having Karndean flooring fitted in my living room, does anyone have this? It's the wooden floor full plank design that I am interested in. What exactly is it, does it look good, is it hard wearing, are there any negatives points about it?
- Karndean is a well respected manufacturer of vinyl both sheet and plank. Plank vinyl is almost exclusively for commercial use so I assume that your floor will be a sheet vinyl with a wood plank pattern. Karndean makes some of the best looking vinyl floors I have seen. The patterns are realistic and the textures match. It is sometimes hard to distinguish a high quality vinyl from wood until you walk on it. In comparison with other vinyl floors, there are no negatives. In comparison with real wood there are a few, such as lower durability. Vinyl cannot be refinished and look good after 80 or 100 years. It will hold up well though with good maintenance. You can probably count on 15 years. Vinyl is superior to wood in that it is not sensitive to water. All in all I am sure you will be satisfied with the appearance and quality of a floor like Karndean.

- wood laminate floors have a factory seal of polyurethane. soaps and cleaners with ammonia react to the laminate by softening and therefore discoloring the seal. Clean the floors with a small amount of vinegar and water.(4 capfuls to a gallon of water). there is a new product out called PERGO that is designed for poly laminated wood floors. use with a micro-fiber mop head. works really well..good luck...
- Q:I want to redo my kitchen floor (ugly 1970 looking linoleum) in a 120-year old farm house. I want to do something unique that fits with a primitive look (knotty pine walls, original doors and woodwork). I have a pallet of old slate roof shingles that were salvaged from the barn when it was torn down. Most are still in very good shape and I was wondering if there was any way to incorporate this material into the flooring. Can this be used to tile the floor? I'm looking for anyone with info on using slate for flooring - pros, cons and so on. I'd also like info on recommended thickness, type of adhesive, grout, etc.? I've done ceramic tile and refinished hardwood floors, so I have some basic flooring experience. Thanks in advance for any information!

- Q:I put down a laminate floor 1 month ago, and when I walk across most areas the joints move up and down. I had a new sub floor installed prior to the laminate so I don't believe it's a leveling issue. There is an expansion gap on all walls and I'm taking the floor up because I scratched it.Would it make sense to put PL300(prefer this for cost) or flooring glue in the joints when I relay it?Thanks.

- I worked with a flooring company and the guy would put talcum powder between the cracks to stop them from squeaking, any fine powder works, but talcum powder is really fine apparently and gets in farthest.
- Q:Is this a necessity? Will laminate flooring become damaged over time if an underlayment isn't used? The previous owner of this home installed a wood floor in the living room without an underlayment so if I want to use a flat transition between this floor and the floor I'm going to put in the next room I'll have to leave it out to keep the floors level. If I chose a cheap foam underlayment how thick will it be? Thanks.
- The plastic coated foam underlayment is less than 1/16th of an inch thick. It should not cause a noticeable difference in the level of the floor between rooms. I wouldn't recommend leaving it out. It will increase the life of your floor.

- It depends. The second floor in France is actually the premier étage, as the ground floor is the rez-de-chaussée, reserved for shops and the like. But the second floor is the deuxième étage.
- Q:How I can I simplify the floor function; insted of using the special floor markers or function (e.g. floor (f(x)) I can express x without the use of the special loor marker or function.
- n = floor of x x = any real number = 0 % = modulus (remainder of the division between the two numbers) n = x - x%1 Example: x = 2.3 2.3 - (2.3 % 1) 2.3 - 0.3 2 This won't work for negative numbers, as the floor of -2.3 = -3. This logic will result in -2, which is the ceiling of -2.3. EDIT: I saw Ben's answer, and checked google for what mod of -2.3 would be, and it does say 0.7. My first test was with the windows calculator, and it gave me -0.3 as the mod. So as long as the mod gives a positive number, the mod method would work for all values. If it returns with windows calculator does, it would only work for positive numbers. Thank you M$ for giving us a bugged up calculator :)
