Q:We got a wool area rug a month and a half ago. It sheds bunch. Is this normal? thanx: new rugs shed, just keep vacuuming

Q:My roommate used a rug doctor to clean the carpet, she is a complete cleaning novice, and did it while i was at work. She sprayed to much of the cleaning liquid and left us with slightly damp carpet, it now smells. I have been spraying it with febreeze, but it doesn't seem to be helping too much.I was planning a dinner for some friends on friday night, but it's just embarrassing. Is there anyway i can at least minimize the smell by then?: Ok, is the carpet still wet?? If it is, then get yourself a dehumidifier to dry it out. If it is dry and still smells then there is most likely mold under there. The mold smell will not go away and the worse it is, the worse for your health it is. Have the carpet steam cleaned first, then still get yourself a dehumidifier to dry the carpet this time just to be sure it dries in a timley manor and does not do this again. If after a steam cleaning it still smells... well then the carpet is ruined and will have to be replaced. Good luck.

Q:my friend and I are going to be rooming together at UGA. we want to get a rug, but a big size (8x11) to cover most of the floor would be really expensive. would it be better to get a carpet instead?: I would go w/ brown and black like the sofa.... but I don't know about the the dark blue carpenting w/ all that. Q:what is a penny rug?: you can find things about it on line im sure, penny rugs were cut from old felted wool scraps, now most people just use felt, they really are used more to decorate tables and such as modern felt isnt really strong, the reason they are called penny rugs is they were cut in various size circles and joined together, similar to a yoyo quilt though the penny rugs werent gathered, most of the shapes were outlined in blanket stitch and sometimes the pennies were stacked two or three deep using successivly smaller circles so you got a ringed color effect. I downloaded a small penny christmas tree design last winter and i think it might have been on the debbie mum site. just put penny rug patterns into a web search and you will surely find some. lots of the penny rug designs also were edged in tongue shaped pieces, these were often called pen wipers, they would make a penny rug for the top of a desk with the tongues all around it and the master of the house had a handy pen wiper in the tongues, when they got too messy they could be replaced. enjoy your hunt.

Q:What pigment is good for writing on the carpet?: Big white clouds acrylic ~ ~ oil painting can be oil painting pen. You must clean the pen when you finishing using it. The pen that is made of weasel's hair and gouache pen are all ok.

Q:my baby girl is 16 months old . she makes mess in her room. i have hardfloor, was wondering what kind of rug would be ok as she makes a mess. and can u plz suggest me other things to buy for her room to make it beautiful and nice at reasonable price thanx: They have those thin, bamboo mats that are beautiful and don't collect dust that bad, therefore better for her to breathe. Q:I recently bought an ikea rug, which isn't exactly an area rug, but is big enough not to put in a washer. I vacuum it regularly, but it is a white rug with big colourful blobs, and the dirt off of my feet can be seen in certain spots.. I was wondering if anyone knew how to clean it.. I was just going to buy a carpet cleaner and scrub it, but there are multiple spots with dirt. Also, I'm not sure if the colours are going to bleed if I try to do that.. I don't really want to buy a steam cleaner, but I guess if that is my only option.. but again i don't want the colours to bleed.Any info is appreciated! Q:2 days ago our carpet started leaking. None of our pluming goes underneath it which amazes us. We have no money for plumbers or anyone to check on it. We do have a water heater next to it but its in ground. and we check on it every 2 days and there are no leaks leading to it.: Here's a checklist to follow mate 1) if wettest spot near external wall, check your roof gutters, has it been raining recently? Gutters or Downpipes blocked? 2) if not near external wall, check roofing/tiles, recent rains? Cracked tiles or tile capping? Loose sheeting(if applicable) 3) is it near bathroom? If your shower or bath faucet has a leak behind the tiles it can run down the inner part of the wall and emerge metres away, follow the wet carpet trail (wear only socks as it's easier to feel) walk in a circular fashion outwards from wet patch, if harder to find change socks and stand for a few seconds each step to give water time to seep up (tissues or toilet paper are good too) 4) Check all taps, tap washers (easy to replace and about 20cents each, shower heads and tighten if needed, Teflon tape to seal 5) check that all taps are turned off and go to your water meter and see if dial is turning, if it isn't you have no leaky plumbing, if it is you need to investigate every inch of roof and basement if you have it, 6) check your washing machine hose is situated in drain and that it isn't split, spilling over etc, are your fridge and freezer defrosted regularly? Mate it's water, if it doesn't smell the health risks are very minimal, though mould is a problem, air house out and keep towels down till fixed, hope you find the leak, good luck

Q:spill candle wax on my carpet and wont come off...: Take a paper towel and an iron and iron the paper towel on the spot. The heat will melt the wax and the towel will absorb it. You may need to repeat the process several times depending on the absorbancy and the size of the spill. Just set the iron to a lower setting so you don't melt the carpet. A mild setting should do.

Q:I have a small rug on my carpet in my bedroom and for a few days it got flipped halfway over, and now there is a huge role in it. I tried flipping it the other way for a few days but it was still there. any tips?: Try to steam it if you have a portable one, bring it in the bathroom and a hot steamy shower might un wrinkle it out or, iron it! ;) p.s. marilyn monroe is my idol as well!
