Q:i got the old faucet off just fine, but am having trouble reconnecting the water supply. every time i try to screw it on it starts out fine when i twist it on with my fingers, but as soon as i try to tighten it further with the basin wrench both hot and cold lines screw on very crooked. after a couple of tries i thought maybe it wouldnt cause that much of a problem so after i turned them as far as they would go i turned the valves back on to see and water sprayed everywhere. what am i doing wrong?

You cross-threaded the faucet and possibly the connecting lines. You have to replace both. Next time make sure you have the threads correctly aligned before you tighten them.

i know you know how to tighten it underneath, it's just a loose nut, but as an addition put water based epoxy between the faucet and the basin to have better hold. do not use the faucet overnight for best results.

Q:I'm having a problem with my 35154678 year old bathroom faucet.Leaking has always been a slight problem but I've always somehow been able to get it to stop if I close the faucet REALLY tightly. First: The dripping is probably caused by bad stem washers and/or bad seats in the faucet. second: You probaly stripped the faucet handle and/or broke the plastic stop inside the handle...! Replace the faucet... its cheaper than repairing..!!

I replace a lot of faucets in my handiman business and after fighting these things day in and day out I finally designed a tool that I made in my shop at home that works like a charm. It's a piece of 1" x 12" galvanized steel pipe. On one end I cut 2 sets of notches in the sides directly across from one another with a hacksaw, then knocked the small pieces out, leaving what looks like the top of a chess rook. The 1" pipe opening is big enough to slide over the brass threaded shank that the nut screws onto and the four teeth grab the four tabs on the nylon nut. I drilled a 1/4" hole in the opposite end, through both sides for the shank of a screwdriver. Works like a charm and saves the knuckles and a lot of cuss words.
