There are special tools made for that available at any good hardware store, they are like a deep-socket with a T-handle, but to help without that tool spray the bolt/nut/washer with WD-40 and let set for 10 minutes, wipe off excess and try again.

if its a new installation it should be easy. you need a basin wrench, two 3/8 inch x 20 inch flexible steel braided faucet supply's, the new faucet and a flashlight. put down some rags under the sink (gets a little wet) close the valves under the sink and turn on the faucet to assure they are off and holding. remove the supply lines from the faucet and the valves you closed under the the sink. now loosen the capture nuts on the shanks of the faucet where the supply's were removed. after the captures are loose and removed the faucet lifts up and away. if there is a sprayer to the right of the faucet just cut the hose and remove it. the new faucet will come with installation instructions and pictures...so i won't have to write a novel here. if you get a basic faucet it will be simple... when you get into the exotics it becomes a strain. stay with a delta or a moen faucet...stay away from price phister...remember when you are purchasing a faucet... if there is an existing sprayer to the right of the faucet you will need to buy one with a sprayer (w/spray) don't want a sprayer and one exists...you will need a cock hole cover for it. talk to a sales person at a plumbing supply house....stay away from home improvement centers...best advise i can give you and good luck to you. yes there is a price dif between the supply house and home improv center...but you tell the guy at the counter in the supply house about it and many times you get a break. PLUS they know their product. good luck

Q:Hi, I recently replaced a washer on my hot water faucet and now when running the hot and cold water to shower etc. both run for a bit of time and then I hear a thunk noise (loud enough to hear above the noise of water running) and the hot water will drop off as if it is turned off. I then turn on more and the water runs with no problem. This is constant every time I use it. Any ideas. I believe my cold water slows down also but cannot be sure. I have two handle faucet with a pull up button (for shower) on spout. Sometimes the water after turning it up will come out of the faucet head alittle as if the water is pushing out where ever it can. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Sound like you have a bad anti-scald valve. Generally you need to replace the entire tub/shower valve, but some manufactures design theirs with a replaceble anti-scald unit.
