Q:I've play flute for 8 years now, piccolo for 6. Last year when playing for chairs I got 2nd chair. I got absolutely no solos nor piccolo parts. Being my sophomore year, I didn't mind all that much. Our flute section leader was first chair. Now this year she is drum major. We played for chair with a new band director and I got 2nd chair once again, while she got 1st. I've asked to challenge but I don't know if I will be allowed to or not. When I asked last year I was gently told no. Saying all that, every time we have played for chairs I knew for a fact that I could easily beat her and become 1st chair but the band directors keep giving me 2nd. I don't know what to do. I know for a fact she's planing on once again not giving me any solos nor piccolo parts. It's really bumming me down. What should I do?

Are you REALLY better than her? Or do you just THINK you are because you aren't hearing flaws that someone who isn't currently playing an instrument would hear? I've had that happen a few times. I'd be recording a guitar part and think I nailed it, only to realize it sounded like crap when I listened to the playback. That could very well lead to a situation where you believe you're a better player than her because you're hearing the flaws in her playing, but not in your own (because you're occupied with playing). Try this: Have someone record both of you playing the same piece of music, and play them back for you without telling you which one is you and which one is her. That's the only way for you to honestly see if you really are better than her without your own bias getting in the way. If you don't know which recording is you playing, you can't be biased into thinking that one sounds better.

Q:I need to get a high chair for my daughter because feeding her solids while she's in her bumbo is killing my back. Do any moms have any advice for purchasing a high chair? any recommended brands or types? any features to look for?

We LOVE our booster chair. Its the kind that sits on a regular chair. We got a really good deal on ours. It was less than 20 bucks. Check Babies R us. Is there any warehouse stores in your area? Like Costco, Sam's Club or Bj's? That's where we got ours. Comes with that table that attaches to the chair.

I okorder / and I would highly recommend a commercial grade chair since you are using it for long periods of time. Look for something ergonomic (not just the word ergonomic but true feature). Look for seat depth adjustment, independent backrest, lumbar support and what type of foam they use. Molded injection is more durable and lasts longer, cut foam is softer but doesn't hold up as well. As for price you are probably looking at $250+ but should get a lifetime warranty and plenty of use from the chair average 8 years.

Q:I have a bouncy chair for each of my twin babies, but it is very basic. There is no toy bar attached. Me and my mum have searched for a attachable toy bar to go on/over their bouncy chairs to entertain them but cannot seem to find one. Anyone got any ideas as to where i would be able to find such a thing? Or even if they exist?

I have the Space Saver. I also have a booster seat much like the one you are looking at. Herein is the difference: The Space Saver is EXACTLY like a full-sized high-chair, except, since it straps onto a chair, it leaves less of a footprint at your table. Great for people like us who have a tiny dining room. I love that this chair has all the features of one of the huge high chairs. The padding is really cushy and comfy, and hella easy to clean. It does have a multi-position infant recline feature, but to be honest, you really aren't going to use that much. The only time I used it was when my daughter was *really* little and I was doing dishes or making meals. I'd put her in her high chair, recline it back, and she'd fall asleep while watching me. The Space Saver also converts into a toddler booster seat. Really though, my daughter is 1.5 years old and we still use it as a high chair. The booster seat you're looking at is great for when they're a bit older and can sit up on their own for long periods of time. Pretty uncomfortable bit of plastic to sit on,though, but really nice to quickly pack up and travel with. (the Space Saver is travelable, but isn't as quick to pack up). Personally, I've used all 3 things you're looking at, and own the two strap-on seats. Out of all of them, I adore the Space Saver. It's the tops. You definitely get your money's worth, and then some.
