- Q:I am remodeling my master bathroom and I have already ripped out the old vanity and I'm about to put in the new one. The old vanity and top appeared to be of normal length (60'/61'), like the new pair I picked up at OKorders (I did a quick measure and it looked close, so I assumed it was of standard size). However, the geniuses who built my home built the space for the vanity (between a regular wall and a half-wall beside the toilet) exactly 60' wide. So while the vanity will squeeze in, the vanity top won't. I am thinking I will have to end up removing the half-wall, but I want to do as little work as possible. Is there a way to shave an inch off the wall? Anybody think of any ideas? BTW, the vanity top is a marble top, so I doubt I can shave an inch off that.....Thanks in advance.
- why don't you build it into the wall since you are going to have to remove it and ..hopefully there is no beams.. oh the outlet I just read... lets hope the electrical can run under it..or I would consult with someone who works with marble... building it into the wall or even changing the form of the wall may de-value your house.. I would consider a new vaniy..sadly
- Q:I was taking off a bathroom vanity light and the wires came undone.Usually, it is just a black to black, a white to white and a ground to hook up the light...but when I looked at the wires...There is a white wire coming out of the wall above the sink where I am going to put it ing out of the white wire istwo black wires caped together.two white wires caped together and one red wire caped by itself.When I hook the black and white wires on the light to the black and white wires on the wall...the light turns on, but then the wall switch will not turn off.Does anyone know how to wire this light with this wire configuration?
- Normally black, white and red wires signify a 3 way switch. Is there another switch that operates the lights somewhere? The red and black wires should make the bulb operate. Google wiring a 3 way light fixture and you will find the diagram. Edited to correct placement of red wire.

- All depends on the look you want to go for. My bathroom has all the same stuff as yours and I painted my vanity white. Against the blue and the whit tub and toilet and chrome finishes, it makes for a really clean, sharp look. I went with square mirrors as I was going for a clean fresh look. If you were to paint the vanity brown I would probably go with round mirrors. If it were me and I had to choose between chocolate brown and black, I would go with the brown. I have always liked the look of brown and blue together.

- Twenty two years ago, before it was even popular like it is today, I used an antique piece of furniture, cut a hole in the top, dropped in a scalloped porcelain sink , and transformed it into a working sink/vanity in my downstairs bathroom. And, the oak furniture piece cost only $165.00. Yes, I had to retrofit the drawers so they could still be used, but the end result is well worth my efforts. The style of the furniture is curved in front with a harp on the back for hanging towels, like an old fashioned wash sink to match my victorian bath. But you can use any other style to fit your decor. I refinished the vanity with Minwax Antique Oil Rub. The oil absorbs into the wood and is waterproof. You may be tempted to finish the wood with polyurethane and although it is waterproof, it will eventually end up getting scratched and begin to lift which will result in more maintenance that you may want to dedicate to the vanity. Whereas the oil soaks into the wood, not coating the surface like the poly. And the finish is hand rubbed, leaving a wonderful patina look to the wood. May I suggest that you skip the bathroom showrooms and go directly to the flea markets, consignment shops, antique shops and the like? You may be surprised what you can find if you have the time to shop, because if you have more time than money, you are sure to find something that will work for your application. This may not be the answer you were looking for, however, please at least consider the possibilities.

- Try okorder / I buy a lot of stuff from them. Also you can make your own out of a sewing machine stand or a dresser. The important thing, speaking as a plumber, is to use new drain and dupply fittings on your sink. Hope this helps!
