I'm definitely no expert in the field but hope to learn much more in the future. I'm in the infancy stage of researching as many options as possible in the design and construction of a total green house. That being said, a particular local news story sparked my interest when they investigated the cost effectiveness of residential solar panel systems. Q:2v vs 24v solar panel?
The choice of solar panel voltage comes down more to what the panels will be connected to. You're right that power can remain the same at the different voltages. Higher input (panel) voltages are sometimes used in inverter systems to reduce the effect of voltage draw-down. 2v panels (about 20v open circuit) work well for charging 2v batteries, connected in parallel, through a charge controller. For use of a grid-tie inverter, higher input voltages are sometimes used to reduce the effects of draw-down. You want to select and wire (parallel vs. series) your panels based on the input voltage requirement of the load, whatever it may be.
Q:how much does it cost to operate a solar panel?
Photovoltaic panels have almost zero recurring operating cost. Once installed, they are good for the next 20-25 years, typically. The exceptions are if the panels are not tilted, then you need to pay someone a few times a year to go up there with a mop to clean them. Otherwise, rain and morning dew make the dirt slide off automatically. The cost for your system will depend on the power needs of your school. It also depends on your location. As a government entity, a school is not eligible for the current 30% federal incentive, but may be for state incentives, depending on where you live. Anyway, once you size your system, which will be large, figure on $7 / watt cost for a large system. This would be less if you live in a state with good incentives. Your three choices are to use it to power an airplane, to power a boat underwater or to power a boat like an air boat. You might also use the air boat concept to make a car. (air car) The air boat might be the simplest to make but you will need a body of water to demonstrate the concept. The air car doesn't have such a requirement.

You are way out of your depth if your report for science class is supposed to be knowledgable. You also need to add in the cost of a 2VDC to 0VAC invertor, monitoring panels etc.... AND... just how big is the ROOF of the house you are planning to use.? This is an area of involved study and it's a bit more than what you are imagining for your high school science class report.
