Q:I don't remember what number exactly but it's in the single digits. This number represents how efficient solar panels are at capturing the sun's rays and converting it into electricity.Why?
The most important thing is for how much time the sun shines at your place. If you are living at a place where the sun shines just for to 2 hours then installing a solar panel will be of no use. But if sun shines at least 9-0 hours then solar panels will be in use.

Summary: Note: There is currently a waiting list for rebates from the Solar Energy Incentives Program. This program has received $5 million in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). This funding will be used to award rebates to some of the systems that are on the waiting list. The state has applied for an additional $9.4 million in federal funding for this rebate program. Systems applying for the rebate at the present time will be placed on the waiting list. If additional federal funded is received, the approved applications will be awarded rebates based on the order in which they were received. FY 2009-200 is the last year of the solar rebate program and the last year the program could be funded under current authorizing statute. Q:Ok so i have to solar panels to charge a battery however the panels hooked up in series does charge the battery very slowly because series connections only multiplies the voltage but leaves the current the same. Is there a way i can also hook both of them up in parallel at the same time to multiply the current for faster charge? I know i can do this with 4 panels but i dont want to spend extra. No. Series means one thing, parallel another, and they are mutually exclusive.
Q:I don't see much solar panels on people's houses where I live. I got a long time to go before doing so but I was planning on buying a few solar panels when I retire in the far future. Regarding okorder /.. . In Hawaii, solar is going in like crazy, with long backlogs for installation. If it will be a long time until you retire, then there is no rush. The price of technology tends to go down with time, and in fact, solar panels today are less than half the price of what they cost us in 2006. Also, who knows where you'll be living when you retire? If it's Honolulu, the place may already have solar panels. In the woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, it might never be worth it (but look into wind, there).

Lighting can be efficient on ordinary 2 volt dc.They are far better than wind power I have tried that as a back up but I found it a waste of time and money most of the time. If you are connected to the mains power any power you don't use can be sold to the power supplier. With the really serious set up you can do anything with your power that you can do with the power suppliers. I set this of mine up to get away from the petrol generaters, I have had my panels for about 5 years and they are putting out the same wattage that they were when I bought them. I have not gone in for it seriously but I was told by someone that their mother had set up a system for $4,OOO and she received a grant of the same amount from the government and she sold her surplus power to the local power supplier. Incidentally I live in Western Australia.
