Q:I bought a vanity made by American Standard. It has a wood-like paper applied on it, with some material (glaze or varnish etc). Can I use such paper material on the kitchen cabinets? Does it last? Where do they sell wood paper? The stain seems to be fully absorbed by the wood so it is not coming off. I dont like to paint the cabinets. However, this wood paper gives some shade/grain-like look to the bathroom vanity. I want the kitchen cabinets to look similar.

if the sides of the cabinets are melamine then no you cannot buy that paper and apply it yourself. it is done in the manufacturing process and applied to cheaper substrates to give the look of real wood sorry, more affordable substrates is what I meant it can be bought as full sheet like plywood is available but may be too thick to apply to the side of a cabinet without the raw edges being exposed I suppose you could look for a wood grain wallpaper, someone somewhere probably makes it, but I am not sure if that would hold up well on cabinets especially when steam is coming up from a pot on the stove

Q:so you know those boxed sink w/ vanitie that the OKorders and Home depot sells. Most of the standard ones are either white or a light oak. Has anyone ever painted or stained the oak one a different color to match their bathroom a little better. Like a darker cherry vs. the light oak that you buy it as ?Was wondering if this could be done, or a good idea, would I have to prime it first, I mean it is wood, it should be able to absorb and accept a good quality wood stain, right ?

Most of the pre fab cabinetry sold at the big box stores are usually veneered MDF. Meaning you probably won't be able to stain the cabinet. You may be able to paint the cabinet.

Q:My dog decided to chew off a corner of our bathroom vanity, which is made out of particle board. I am checking to see if it's possible to repair the cabinet. Would wood putty or some other substance work to recreate the corner edge? If you have any ideas for how to repair or replace particle board, I'd be grateful!The other option, of course, is to buy a new vanity and replace it ourselves. Would this be easier (and/or more cost-effective) than trying to repair the cabinet? Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Depending on the size of the missing piece, I would sand or shave the damaged area to get a clean edge then get some scrap particle board of the same thickness, shape it to match the missing piece then glue it on. once it is dried sand the area where you glued it, to provide a smooth finish. Then paint or finish as needed.

Q:I had some black hair dye accidentally get on my bathroom vanity top. The vanity top is white not marble not granite not sure the material. The apartment is very new everything is pretty high end so it may be marble but the color is white. I put bleach on the stain to remove it but it turned it a light green color? Should I try more bleach? Or just hire a professional cleaner to try and remove the mess?has anyone experienced this? Since there's also peroxide (a form of bleach) in the hair dye...putting more bleach won't improve your vanity stain.....Try a paste with baking soda and water, putting a damp (old) towel over the stain for 24 hours......keep dampening the towel or cover it with plastic wrap to prevent it drying out!....Sometimes HAIR turns green when too much color is too different from the last i.e. brown to blonde......which makes the hair green (such as someone who dyes their hair blonde & then goes into a swimming pool....then it turns a nasty green color being in a chlorinated pool)!

Q:I want to replace a damaged one with another banjo countertop. Some suggest getting rid of it because they can seem dated. But if I did, removal would require patching and painting a wall to match other walls in this small bathroom. And the big mirror would look overpowering & unbalanced then. I actually like the extra room the banjo provides over the toilet area as I display soaps and silver accessories there. Big Box stores like Home Depot and Lowes dont carry them. I am in southern California and do not want the expense of granite or quartz. The current countertop is white cultured marble and pretty tasteful for what it is. (p.s. I am not interested in painting it. I think the results look too DIY.

You can install the vanity first, but you'll have to tile AROUND the bottom of the vainity afterwards. I've always found it easier to start with an even, tiled floor first. Good Luck!
