- Q:I got two mobile GPS units for my car which use a mini USB interface for powering. One of the units didn't come with a cigarette adapter so I am trying to figure out how to power it. Can I just use a normal USB cable? I would tap the red wire into the fuse box in my car, and ground the black wire to the frame. So:-Can a mini USB cable handle 12V for ~5ft-Is that the right way to connect them?Thanks!

- Hi Ian: That cable you refered to is called Siamese cable meaning it's RG-59 coax + an outer power cable twinned to it (as a single run) for powering a remote camera. If that's the purpose for the coax you need (or you are wanting to wire a car backup camera with power and video signal, for example) then this is the correct cable to use. However, if you just want to run a video, antenna, or cable-box signal, and don't need the power cable feature, this particular brand of cable is a waste of money. - Q:I live in the UK and I am going on holiday to Taiwan/Japan where the voltage is 110/100v as opposed to 220 here (i think).I was wondering if I could use a power extension cable (with multiple sockets) so that i would only need one adaptor to connect the extension to the mains and then I could just simply plug my 3 pin plugs into the cable saving me money and sockets. As it would be a lower voltage, I assume that there shouldn't be any problems with power however, if there are any electricians or anyone who has done this before I would really appreciate some guidance just to ensure that this is safe.Thanks is advance.
- Using your 220 extension cords and outlet strips on a lower voltage will not damage them or your devices, which of course will be receiving whatever voltage your cord is plugged into. You will need a transformer if any of your item(s) won't work at 100 volts. - Q:i just bought a cobra radar detector and im a bit of a perfectionist. it bothers me that the power supply cable drags from the windshield across the head unit and into the cigarette lighter. i need ideas on how to hook up the detector because it needs to be plugged in to work but not have the cord out in the open. thanks
- Mount the detector on your sunvisor. Run the power cord fromt eh detector under the edge of the headliner and down the A-pillar next to the windshield (you should be able to remove the plastic over the A-pillar and run the cord behind it.) Cut the cigarette lighter plug off and wire it into the fuse panel to a switched 12v source (something that comes on when the car is cranked)(radio, etc). That will allow the radar detector to power on when the car is cranked and to power off when the car is stopped. I wired all of mine like this and never had any problems with any of them.
- Q:Hi everyone, I recently purchased a PS3 used not slim and am having a tough time with it. For one, I don't even know how to charge my four red dot blinking controller and turn on the ps3. I'm wondering since I got everything hooked up but still not even a red dot on the ps3 when I put in the power cable at the end there is that thing with the three things sticking out, where do I put that? Like a place where I charge my phone? I think that's why I'm having problems. Thanks.
- ok. the PS3 uses a standard 3 prong plug, similar to what your PC would use. plug that in, and then into the wall. older PS3's also have a power switch right above the power cord. you have to turn the system on here. after you filp the switch, the PS3 enters standby mode. on to your controller you should have gotten a very short usb cable. the larger end plugs into the system.the smaller into the controller. push the PS button on the center of your controller to sync it. it should go from 4 flashing lights to one. then, it should steady flash position 1 to show that it is charging. one it is charged, or when the usb cable is removed, you should get a steady light. no flashes.
- Q:When I unplug the power cord from my laptop the screen brightness automatically dims down to about 10% of its total brightness, and when I click the quot;increase screen brightnesskey on the keyboard the brightness will only increase about 5% until it stops. It's like I've put some limit as to how bright the screen can get. Anyone know how to fix this?
- I'm not sure if this will fix it but I have an idea. Do you know where the charge level in on your computer. I have the inspiron 1520 so it's an old version but on mine it's on the bottom right hand corner. If you click on that you should get a screen that pops up and gives you the amount of battery life it has left in a percentage then underneath that it should have a select a power plan: area and the options that it gives you are balanced, power saver and High performance. If you click on the high performance then the brightness should be the same weather the power cord is plugged in or not. Hope I helped =)

Different cable sizes required for each rating (for minimum cross-section) ... however, cable sized for 80 A will certainly do the job for the higher voltage ratings, assuming it is insulated for the appropriate voltage.
