If it is new, just probably needs an airing. Don't you have a deck rail to hang it over for an afternoon. If not, drape it over a couple of chairs and just open the windows and let the air blow on it.

Q:I have a Large area rug that I need cleaned. A woman that had a HOUSE TRAINED dog gave it to me. I want to clean it as the dog walked and layed down on this rug as well. The dog never urinated on this rug which is good. It just smells like dog so I want to get it cleaned. I don't think a rug doctor will do the trick. Does anyone out there know where I can take it to be cleaned. Again this a LARGE. thanks. Or if you have used a rug doctor or s specific cleaner to remove (not cover up) the odor please let me know what works for you.

Karen's answer would be best, just put it in the yard and soak the crap out of it.. but if you don't have a yard, the bathtub will do. Put it in, put some detergent in, (and maybe the salt to help keep the dye from going anywhere) swish it around a lot and maybe let it soak, then drain and refill the tub until you feel it's rinsed.

Q:just found out my light turnout rugs from last year to keep my horses protected from the wind and rain as they live out all year but they are kinda stinky as theyv been storred in the yards shed, the writing on the tag has wore away so i cant see what it says about washing them?they are amigo light turnouts.do you wash yours in any particular way? and what do you use to wash them in?

My lightweight Amigo rugs fit in my washing mashine. Use a 30C wash and Nikwak rug wash. I then like to add an extra rinse cycle before washing in Nikwax rug proofer on a 30C wash. ( no need to dry between treaments) I hang them over a rotary airer to dry. The specialist wash liquids cost about ?7 per rug whereas local rug cleaners charge ?18 to wash and reproof and you do have to reproof turnout rugs. If the rugs are really filthy I do a prewash with non bio wash liquid and then give an extra rinse cycle.

Q:I have just this cheap low shag carpet in my boys room I want to put down some wood planks. I don't understand why I would have to remove the carpet, it's so low it's not plush. Not quite as bad as commercial office carpet but pretty close to it. Can't I simply install the fllor over it, what's going to happen if I do?

it would not be a good idea. we do not understand how large of an section you're masking yet pull out the carpet and placed down which ever foam pad ( with vapor barrier) the producer is calling for. Do issues the right way the first time and not in any respect worry again. perhaps slightly extra artwork and $ yet well worth it.

There is dust on the carpet, you can wash the broom in soapy water, sweep the carpet, with the dip, keep the broom moist, and then sprinkle with fine salt, and then broom cleaning, and finally wipe with a cloth clean.

Q:I have rented the rug doctor before and have been satisfied w/ the results. I am in an apartment and not willing to pay for more. It works great for the $20 rental. However, the get you on the shampoo, anit-foam, ect. Does anyone have a cheaper alternative? By the time I get all this, its not so cheap anymore. Is there even possibly something organic I can make or get cheap? I am having a baby in 3 months and do not want the linger of chemicals in the carpet.

Q:I know they make oxy cleaner for almost everything these days and they make oxy carpet cleaner but i was wondering seeing the powder oxy is cheaper then the the already made carpet cleaner can i use the tub of oxy (if i mix it with water) on the stains on my carpets just like you would use in your laundry will it do the samething or should i just buy the cleaner itself?

As a carpet cleaning pro, I've seen hundreds of damaged carpets, mostly Nylon or Polyester, where a laundry product permanently damage the carpet dyes. When inquiring as to what caused the damage, the number one culprit was Oxy Clean Laundry Detergent. About 6 years ago, I came across a couple who used this product to fine tune the spills and stains in their carpet, severly damaging the Nylon carpet in numerous areas. They did receive a settlement from the Oxy company at that time to help replace their carpet. Their ads made it sound like they had a miracle product available. If you have Olefin carpeting, a laundry detergent may not hurt these fibers, but why take a chance. Never use bleach on any spill or stain on furniture or carpeting. I've seen thousands of damaged carpets cause by the mis - use of this laundry product.
