Q:Cutting holes in porcelain tile?
When okorder.com/
Q:DIY mosaic tiling?
Lightly sand the formica and then prime it with kilz it. Let it dry and go to town with your mosaic. I did this to a kitchen island 7 years ago and it's still holding up.
Q:Should the ceramic tile throughout my house match?
As long as you use neutral colors that flow well together it will not affect the resale value of your home. Now, if you put in a bright orange pattened tile it would negatively affect the value. FYI - Most people don't like tile throughout the WHOLE house. People tend to prefer hardwood or carpets in the bedrooms. If you're not going to be selling your house soon, I wouldn't worry about it.
Q:Installing a glass tile backsplash?
Hello Samsonite, I would have to disagree with using mastic. If you were using something that had a good absorption rate it's be different, but glass is so dense it'd take forever for the mastic to set up. Most manufacturers of glass tiles recommend using highly modified thinset (Customs Building Product's Megaflex at HD or TEC's Superflex at a tile supplier). I have found the Superflex to have the most brilliant white color when cured, providing the best background for your colors to shine. Drywall will be fine. You may want to key in the mortar you choose by flat troweling it on the drywall before combing your notches. This helps to ensure 100% coverage. Q:Can we remove dried cement from surface of tiles?
Muriatic Acid is what you want, but use heavy rubber gloves and use sparingly. Don't let it spatter on carpets or furniture. Don't let it spatter on metal. it is a weak acid and will bubble up when it gets onto cement. To neutralize it, you can use a solution of bicarbonate of Soda and water. White vinegar may well work also and you might want to try that one first since it has less precautions that would come with its use. You would neutralize that the same way. If your tile grouting has been sealed, you will have to redo that.
Q:How to introduce tiles
According to varieties: glazed tiles, quintana brick (homogeneous brick), polished tiles, tiles, porcelain glazed tiles (antique brick) Tile Features: Size: Size of the product size, can save construction time, and neat and beautiful. Water absorption: the lower the water absorption, the better the degree of vitrification, the better physical and chemical properties of products, the more difficult due to climate change thermal expansion and contraction caused by cracking or peeling. Flatness: good tiles of flatness, the surface is not bent, not Qiaojiao, easy construction, construction after the ground flat. Tile strength: high flexural strength, good wear resistance and resistance to stress, easy to wear, timeless, suitable for public places. Color: the tile on the floor, fight in a square meter, from the three meters to see whether there are different colors or can not be connected, resulting in beautiful obstacles. --- These points are the key to identifying the quality of the tile
Q:Cutting ceramic tile?
As I understanding your question ,you want make a 10x10 hole in the wall that has ceramic tiles 4x4. 1- Drown a circle by a marker to show the location of the cut . 2- make hole by a carbide drill about 1 inside the circle. 3- By a router machine with diamond bit start to cut (use coolant for cooling bit during cut) . 4- keep the bit inside of the cut line till get the actual size (in case of any crack in tile).
Q:Can you lay tile over linoleum?
It'd be better to remove the linoleum, because in order to lay a flat tile floor, you need to put down this stuff called Hardi- backer board, (or any similar product). It comes in big square peices, and is your base layer. Without this layer your tiles would eventually sag, dip, and crack. You'd also have grout problems- sealing, cracking, and curing. You can by the Hardi- backer board at Home Depot or any other similar store. Ask the folks who work there for tips on putting tile down.
Q:Our newly installed tile back splash looks wavy.?
To check his claim of optical illusion, take a level (or anything that is a few feet long and perfectly straight) and put it against your tile. Then check if the level touches the tile on all its length (ignore the air bubble). After checking one area, move left-right as needed, try a slight diagonal, vertical if you have enough room, to make sure you 'cover' the most surface of your backsplash tile, and if the level touches the tile everywhere, with no gaps here and there, then your tile are ok, not wavy. If there are gaps between your level and the tile, this shows that the tile ARE wavy. If he used the same thickness of adhesive everywhere, and if the tile prove to be wavy (after you test it as stated above), then the end result is that the wall was wavy in the first place and the tile are just following the wall. The installer should've told you about this at the very beginning... a good one should've notice that with the naked eye, or just check it with a level, and have the wall leveled before tiling. If the gaps between the tile (grout lines) are even everywhere, then at least that part of the job is done ok. Wider and narrower grout lines are the result of not using spacers, but, depending on the kind of tile used, in very rare cases, it could be from the manufacturer, as in, tiny tile squares/pieces placed on a mesh and not perfectly aligned, will result in uneven grout lines. Also, the tile adhesive is supposed to be dry (usually dries overnight) BEFORE the grouting starts. So, there shouldn't be any tile moving around while grouting. After grout has cured (usually 3 days), sealer MUST be applied to grout lines and some types of tile (not all). Good luck !
Q:Kitchen BackSplash Ideas - KITCHEN BACKSPLASH TILING?
Yes the trowel you have is the correct one for a mastic. And you have 2 options, spread some mastic and set a tile to see how the coverage is after you remove the tile. Set in place and give a gentle twisting motion, remove tile and if you have 80% coverage or better you good to go.If not you ll have to back butter the tile .. I can t tell you any other way because I don t know just how deep the pattern is.. As to why they have the waffle pattern, it foe a couple reasons.. One is for body strength after a glue or thin set fills this void. The other is an identifying type mark .. I can tell different tiles by their pattern at times.. Any other questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there.. GL
