Q:I am installing 4.5 x 4.5 porcelain tiles on a drywall kitchen backsplash. Applying Omnigrip mastic using a 1/4 x 3/16 vnotch trowel. The tiles have a waffle grid pattern on the back which is about 1/16 deep. I tested the application of one tile and noticed that the mastic did not fill all the waffle depressions. Are they supposed to be all filled? DO I have to backbutter the tiles? Am I using the correct trowel size? Please help!P.S. What is the purpose of the waffle pattern in the first place?

Q:I was using a steam mop and it started getting very hot and tripping the breaker system. electrician told me there was too many amps (?) for the small electrical cord to handle. He said most of the steam mops can be potentialy dangerous for this reason. My outlets and breaker system have been fine since I stopped using the mop.But now, it is very difficult to keep the tile floors clean. Any suggestions?

Q:How to distinguish between true and false tiles
First, distinguish between good and bad 1, the best level of tile is excellent, followed by a level, two, genuine. So remember to ask when buying clearly, when the receipt to see clearly. (Generally as long as there is no quality problems will appear) 2, pay attention to whether the brick surface fine pinhole, good tiles should be no such situation. 3, low water absorption tile is good, to prove its high density. And vice versa. 4, the general "wall" to pick anti-pollution performance is good, completely impermeable. Followed by hardness. Here it is recommended that the kitchen with smooth and smooth tile will be better. The toilet can choose a variety of different styles and texture of the tiles. 5, tiles will pay attention to the flatness of brick and hardness, which is two key is the key! Followed by anti-fouling performance, anti-skid effect. Flatness: refers to the brick and brick between the paste after the paste, the gap will not have serious bumps.
Q:I have a new bathtub with Durock cement board installed around it and I‘m ready for tile. I just got a guy out to give me an estimate for doing the tile work around the tub and he said the Durock would have to be primed first. I‘ve heard you‘re supposed to put the tile directly on the Durock, not paint it. Now I don‘t know what to do. Is he wrong? If he‘s wrong, do I hire someone else or just question him? He did another (non-tile related) job for me and did an excellent job, so I trust him, but I‘m nervous about this. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
I don't see how priming it would have any advantage. I tiled over some a couple years ago and have had no problems at all. I would think the adhesion would be in question if you are basically adding a layer of paint in between. You don't prime concrete before you lay tile flooring so why would you do otherwise to a cement board? I would ask him for is reasoning behind it. If it sounds like BS and a way to add some time to the job hire someone else.
Q:What are the advantages of Marco Polo Tiles? How to choose the tiles?
You can go to CityTogo to see the above Marco Polo tiles it From the appearance point of view, the color should be uniform, surface finish and flatness is better, the other can be identified by the sound, with a hard light flick, the sound more crisp, the higher the degree of porcelain, the better quality. Or can use water droplets in the back of the tile, see the water spread after the infiltration of the speed, the slower the water, indicating that the greater the density of the tile, on the contrary, that the density of sparse, its inherent quality than the former is excellent. In addition, from its hardness point of view, with the tile pieces of the edges and corners scratched each other to see broken fragments broken, if it is fine, hard, or leave scratches rather than loose, soft, or left scattered powder, It is good quality. These are common sense
Q:Easiest way to remove stick tile
use a heat gun
Q:I have travertine tile in my bathroom that apparently wasn‘t sealed properly. Now it has water stains that are visible when viewed from an angle. It‘s ugly and I can‘t get rid of them. Any suggestions?
Does the tile feel a little rough where you see the stains? The tile may have been etched by acid like effect of low-pH water (like acid rain does) or from the use of alkaline or acidic cleaners and soap scum removers. Most of the popular cleaners will break down the sealer layer and damage stone tile surfaces. Ideally one should use a non-abrasive, pH-neutral cleaner that is specially formulated for natural stone materials. There is a chance that you could use a polishing powder or compound like MB-11, which you can find out more about at the websites listed below. However, there is also a big chance that you will do more damage to the tile. It might be worth trying to remove the stains/etching in some inconspicuous area on the floor before you use it right out in the middle where damage will be easily seen. If that doesn't work then it may be time to call in a flooring restoration specialist to do the job.
Q:How to choose bathroom tiles
In general, the seller will tell the customer whether a tile is permeable, how water absorption. Met with the intention to hide it does not matter, we can try on the spot. The tile glaze layer down, pour a small glass of water on the back, wait a few minutes after the observation of the infiltration of water, and then turn over to see whether there is a watermark glaze. If the water infiltration quickly, glazed with a clear watermark, indicating that the tile permeable, and the density is small, the quality of the times. On the contrary, the slow spread of water or less water, glazed no watermark, indicating a larger tile density, the quality is relatively good. Left tiles glazed with a clear watermark, the quality is not as good as the right tile tricks 3 eye view manual
Q:how to paint over tile
I saw this done on a HGTV program. The tile on the walls was an ugly blue and they didn't have the $$$ to replace and tear out the old stuff so they painted it white with and epoxy type paint. It looked easy enough but I am sure the right rollers and such matter tons.
Q:I poured bleach on the tiles in my bathroom and there was an emergency and had to leave home. When I got back the tiles were stained a yellowish color and it used to be smooth but now it‘s all rough like sandpaper. HELP!
I don't know what type of tiles you have, but if it doesn't have a glazed finish, you may not be able to do much about it. Travertine is a popular natural limestone that is very popular these days and is frequently used in bathrooms. The only drawback is that it is a soft and porous material, so it is much easier to damage that a glazed tile or a natural polished marble. The good news is that it is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. Call a good tile man and get a quote to refinish and a quote to replace the damaged pieces.
