Q:im installing lights in my car and it says i need a 12v wire. can i use somthing more then a 12v wire? im hooking it right from my battery. what other wires can i use?
If it says 12 volt wire, it just means you need to supply the lights with 12 volts. Depending on how much power the lights pull, will depend on how thick the wire should be. If it is saying to use 12 gauge wire, well, then use some 12 gauge wire.
Q:How much would it cost to replace the 4 gauge wire i have in my car now with 0 gauge wire?
When it comes to kits you do not want to go cheap. lesser names have a interesting way to measure wire, some of the smallest 0 ga. i ever seen. i attached a link to a place i personally use, and they have great cable, actually measures slightly higher than the electrical standard (i forget the standard name) any way the kit is $60. kit includes power wire, fuse holder, fuse, ground wire some connections wire ties, and split loom.
Q:Me and a buddy took the 305 out of the car. I have a 350 to take its place, but was wondering what are the only wires i need to have a clean engine bay. the old engine has a million wires hooking up to everything. Some muscle cars only have spark plug wires, the starter wire and battery cable. What must i do to get mine like that? i dont care about emissions. what must i change or add to the new engine?
I have an '84 Monte SS and wanted the same thing. Here's what I have: the 2 wires that come from the harness and go to the starter (1 Positive, 1 S terminal), oil gauge wire, temp gauge wire, the alternator wires, the wire going to the distributor cap, and the tach gauge wire going to the distributor cap. That's pretty much it, as well as your battery cables, and spark plug wires. You really don't need to do or add anything as long as it runs and everything works that needs to work, it'll be fine. I'm going by memory, so if I forgot something I apologize, but that's the best of my recollection right now. If you have anymore questions you can email me.
Q:I'm trying to use a stereo wire instead of a mono wire for an output from a circuit I've built. The problem is, the gold wire has been cut too short, and I'd rather not strip it back any further since I don't have a lot of cord to work with. Since there are three wires (red, white, gold - ground) can I use either the red or the white as output, and the remaining color for ground, or do I have to use the gold cable for the ground and let the remaining wire dangle (taped)? Thanks
The gold wire is actually copper. It is braided and surrounds the red and white wires. It not only forms the common return for both the other wires, it is also a screen which eliminates unwanted pick up. The right channel signal appears between the red wire and the sceeen and the left channel signal appears between the white wire and the screen - which is usually grounded. If you use the red and white wires on their own you will probably get pick up on them. The screen really is necessary. If you have access to the screen at only one end (it sounds as if you might) then connecting the screen to whichever wire you choose to be grounded might be sufficient.
Q:what wires are my speaker wires going to and coming from the factory amp and how do i hook them up please help i drive a 96' ford exploder
aamp of america has a psa interface part# BHA 5511. It works great The other way is to rewire from the psa to the radio. The psa is over the r rr wheel well (a real pain in the butt to get to)
Q:The house was built in the 50's. Two wires are coming up from the switch and two wires are coming down from the top of the wall. I do not see a third wire. I attached the wall light wires left wires to left wires and right wires to right wires and light stayed on, when I moved the switch it threw the breaker. So I used may combination and the switch would not make the light work. It appears one wire may be white and one black. Help please!
The wire coming down from the wall is probably the power line. The wire going to the switch is meant to switch the hot lead lead only. Check the wires on the switch. There is probably a black and white on the switch. You will want to hook the white wire coming from above to the white wire on the light. Hook the black wire coming from above to the black wire going to the switch. Hook the white wire coming from the switch to the black wire on the light. While you are at it take black electrical tape and tape both ends of the white wire that runs to the switch. This will indicate that it is a hot lead.
Q:what wires connect from the vehicle to the a/f sensor
Why do u want to know what wires go to the sensor? If you have a code for the a/f sensor..99 % of the time it is an open in the sensor itself. On rare occasion there are others like a chewed wire by a rodent. But I would just recommend replacing the a/f sensor. And i u were to follow the wires from the male connector they would lead you to a big wire harness that basically just all ends up at the ECU. Just in case u wanted to know.
Q:I'm replacing the ground wire in a chandelier because it has been cut by the previous owner when it was removed from the ceiling. Overall it is pretty simple and I have everything diagramed. When I went to Radio Shack and bought the replacement wire they gave me 18 gauge solid insulated hookup wire. It looks totally different. The ground wire is a braided copper wire (7 strands). Should I go back and take my copper wire with me and get copper or is what I have just as good? An electrician will do the installation of the chandelier into the ceiling.
Radio Shack's hookup wire is copper, but it may be tinned so it has a silver/chrome color instead of a copper color. Tinned wire is more expensive but is also more resistant to corrosion. Braided wire is more flexible than solid wire, but either will do the job. The only real important consideration is the gauge of the wire. You want to make sure your new ground wire is at least as thick as the old one.
Q:i hav a 2000 explorer and just got a new head unit and bought a wiring harness to hook it up. on the wiring harness that's supposed to be plugged in to the truck there are 2 illumination wires, 1 of them is the illumination ground .Out of my new stereo there is only the illumination wire not an illumination ground wire. where do I put the illumination ground ? also i have 2 ground wires coming from my new deck 1 is 12v ground and the other is a chassis ground can i just hook them together?

Q:On what actually does ampere depends, thickness of wire or number of turns of wire or what else? Electrical
Higher current requires lower resistance in order to prevent heat buildup in wires. Multi-strand wires are not suitable for higher amperage applications. Stranded wires have higher resistance and insulating air pockets, which will cause them to heat up with increased current.. possibly to the point of melting insulation and/or causing fire hazards. Some stranded core wire uses material other than copper to cut costs, which further increases resistance. Large diameter solid core copper wire is the standard solution. They offer lower resistance and better heat handling ability. The trade-off is less flexibility and lower durability in moving or reuse situations.
