Q:awg is an american stander to manufacturing electrical wires
The geometry required to make a stranded circular cable, dictates the use of 7, 13, 19, etc strands. Your question is clear, and the practical reason for using 19 strands in some stranded cables is equally clear. Large cables have to be stranded, so that they can be wound on cable drums for transportation, or installed on-site with bends. Solid cables would not easily allow this. Seven strands can be used for smaller cables. SINGLE core stranded as well as solid core cables use less insulation and take-up less space when circular. So the question is, what is the BEST way to arrange the strands to provide a circular shape? Start one central strand. Six more strands fit very well around the central strand. Total strands is now 7. Try this with seven coins about the same diameter. There is room to place six more strands (or coins) in each of the slight openings between the outer sides of the first six strands. This fitting in also locks the shape of the bunch of strands. Total strands is now 13. Six new, but larger gaps appear between the outers of the last laid six strands. Filling these gaps with the final six strands, results in a shape which is a cross between a circle and a hexagon. Total strands is now 19. Cords can be used as a filler to make the bundle more circular in shape. Only 7, 13, 19, etc strands will give this near circular shape. 14,15,16, 17,18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25,......strands will NOT give a near circular shape to a cable. Try it with, 19 similar diameter coins or washers or copy out 19 circles in CAD. As more 'circles' are added the fit gets worse. Both the shape and fit can be improved by using different diameter strands for part of the assembly. This is basic to all cables, electrical as well as mechanical.
Q:I am buying my sister Interior Underdash lights for her car, but it says it requires a quot;hard wire installationbecause it does not come with an on and off switch. What exactly does that mean? Will the lights turn on and off according to whether the car is on or off? Also, what is a hard wire installation?
Hard wire means it's not just plugged in. eg. using the cigarette lighter but instead is permanently wired in. All you need to do is wire the lights ground wire to any ground wire under the dash eg. ignition ground or radio ground ( wire will be black ) or directly to a screw that goes into any metal part of the chassis and wire the lights positive wire to either the accessory wire from your ignition (lights come on when car is on) or a constant power wire eg. radio power wire and wire in a toggle switch so you can turn the lights on or off at will.
Q:A street lamp weighs 200 N. It is supported by two wires that form an angle of 130° with each other. The tensions in the wires are equal. What is the tension in each wire supporting the street lamp?If the angle between the wires supporting the street lamp is reduced to 100°, what is the tension in each wire?
Problem 1: If the tension in the two wires are equal, the angle they make with the horizontal must also be equal. Always remember that a horizontal line is a straight angle; hence, it has a measurement of 180°. Let's look for the angle the wires make with the horizontal. 130 + x + x = 180 130 + 2x = 180 2x = 180 - 130 2x = 50 (Divide both sides by 2) x = 25° Each wire makes a 25° angle with the horizontal. We can now find the tension. The mass must be divided by 2. Using trigonometry, let's find the tension force. The divided weight of the lamp shall be the opposite side, and the tension force shall be the hypotenuse. sin 25° = (200 / 2) / Ftens Ftens = 100 / sin 25° Ftens = 236.62 N (Answer) The tension is 236.62 N in each wire. Problem 2: We use the same approach. 100 + x + x = 180 100 + 2x = 180 2x = 180 - 100 2x = 80 (Divide both sides by 2) x = 40° Each wire makes a 40° angle with the horizontal. Calculate the tension force. sin 40° = (200 / 2) / Ftens Ftens = 100 / sin 40° Ftens = 155.57 N (Answer) The tension is 155.57 N in each wire. Hope this helps!
Q:for california electrical code, am i limited to insert no more than one wire per knockout on a box ?
no. the number of wires in the box is restricted based on the volume of the box but the number of wires entering a knock out is restricted by the size of the conduit or the cable type connected to the knock out.
Q:I have a Hunter 5 minute fan. I have four wires coming from my ceiling. Red, Black, White, and Bare Copper. The Fan has a Green Wire, Black Wire, White WIre,and a Black/White striped Wire. The Ceiling Plate also has green wire. I know to connect the black to black, red to black/white striped, white to white. But for the green and copper wires, do I connect the copper wire from the ceiling to the green wire in the ceiling plate and also to the green wire from the fan?

Q:How do I wire an outlet that has two black and to white wires. It this case the white being the HOT wires?? Don't know why all the white wires in my house are HOT.. And the black are nuetral???
i am an electrician and i cant believe that the white wire is hot. i would double check it to make sure. use a volt meter.take the negative probe and touch the box if it is a metal box. if romex cable was used just touch the bare ground wire. touch the white and black wires one at a time with the positive probe to see wich is hot. every outlet has 4 sdrew terminals 2 brass and 2 silver. the hot wire always gets hooked to the brass terminals. i would check the circuit breaker box to see how the wires are hooked up. the black wires should be hooked up to the circuit breakers the white wires should be hooked up to the nuetral bar. if not you're house was wired backwards.
Q:Is there a Martial Arts / Fighting style that uses wires or whats the practices that uses wires called?
Wires are used in the filming of MA movies.
Q:What are the advantages of electric tape over electric wire for a horse?Thank you!!
I would suggest you keep both electric tape and electric wire away from horses. Electric wire is made of a conductor, usually metal, usually copper or aluminum and covered with a conductor usually plastic such as PVC. It is made to carry electricity to the point of use. Electric tape is a type of insulating tape used by electricians to tape electrical connections. It is usually made of plastic, usually PVC. If you meant house instead of horse, then you would want electrical wire for carrying electricity, properly taped with electrical tape where needed. I have never heard of a conducting tape being used instead of wire for a house. The shape of a tape, with its flat cross section makes it less efficient for carrying electricity and requires much more insulation per conduction capacity.
Q:I heard that Japanese could load a low voltage without any wires in one direction for 1 meter! Of course 1 meter is nothing. But can we get rid of wires in next 50 or 100 years?
Yes maybe, And maybe more than maybe. because I heard about it too. I heard that they could extend it to 100 meters. So I hope it would happen(That I'm sure)!
Q:When you buy new earbuds/headphones there are usually two wires connected by a thin piece of rubber. Is it ok to split the two wires that are joined together when you buy them? Im wondering because i need the extra length.
Its possable on some headphone wire to do that; on others the jacket is too thin and you run the risk of exposing bare wire , if you do expose bare wire I suppose you could cover it with electrical tape....
