- Q:Used an Ofla blade to cut underlayment ontop of the new engineered hard wood i just layed down last week. (i know stupid move, i know) Is there anyway to get rid of the cut mark? i just cut into the top layer of finish so its just showing a white line. It's about 4 ft long, super thin, but you can defiantly notice a thin white line. Any home remedies or stuff i could ask for at my local store?

- Q:1. I live on the 14th floor of a 60 year old building. Would I need a moisture barrier?2. I want to glue hardwood to cork underlayment and float the cork underlayment over the concrete. Is this possible or advisable?
- No moisture barrier is needed since your a little bit above grade. What you want to do in question # 2 won t work sorry . Your best off just gluing the engineered flooring directly to the concrete. If your looking for a sound deadening procedure, get a floating engineered wood flooring and up grade the underlayment to a quiet walk or what ever they ll call it for that particular product. - Q:I purchased engineered wood flooring, following manuf. requests, but it started to separate within a month. I pulled it all apart and GLUED it back down, removing the moisture foam barrier stuff. Now EVEN after glueing the flooring to the subfloor- it is still separating in places, not as many, but Dang! lol

- Q:I just removed carpet and found bad spots on sub-floor. We are cutting the bad spots out and replacing the wood, then the sub-floor will be nailed in good for stability. - Excellent way to go. Any time you have a glue direct floor,it s best to use a new plywood subflooring. This allows for the glues to attach it new wood. The wood won t be dirty and the pores will be free of old oils.Get the best adhesion this way. Purchase 2 trowels to use. These trowels will get excess glue and you need to clean every few hours so you ll get the best coverage. I soak one in mineral spirits when it gets clogged and use the other. - Q:I have a second floor condo with a plywood sub floor. It is cheaper to go with the nail down installation instead of the glue down. I'm wondering what the benefits/disadvantages are with these installations.THX!

- Q:I have a new engineered floating wood floor. A brass lamp fell and left a quarter to half inch deep gash in the floor. Is there a way to repair it without replacing the foor? The wood is oak.
- From my experience I would try and see if you could get a matching wood puddy, to fill the gash. If you have a piece of scrap left over from when the floor was installed, you can take it to your local hardware store and get a wood puddy that will match it. Ive used this before and only I can tell that the damage is there, to others, they can't see it.
- Q:I have what people call a great room. Meaning you can sit in my living room and see the kitchen and laundry room...it is basically all one room, a doorway divides the kitchen from the laundry area, and everything else is open. So can I move my fridge and stove, lay the flooring, and then put it right back, all the while working out towards the living room? Then move living room furniture into already laid dining room, pull up carpet, lay flooring, and then put the furniture back? Or do I need to clean out this WHOLE area and put down the whole floor and then move everything back in?
- Yes, you can do it that way. You will however spend precious installation time by moving the furniture in stages. It's always quicker to completely empty the entire room, then pull up the carpeting (not always an easy job) prepare the floor for the laying of the laminate. My son removed all the carpeting in his home, then put down a laminate floor throughout. It looks super. I hope you're happy with the end result. :)
- Q:is it necessary to seal a concrete floor when laying engineered hardwood floor?
- You really need to check with the manufacturer of your flooring but many manufacturers recommend that you cover a two or three foot square area of the concrete with a sheet of plastic with all of the edges sealed with tape so any moisture that might be migrating up from below the slab will be trapped. You let the sheet set undisturbed for 24 to 48 hours. If there is a moisture, you will see drops of water or at least the concrete will be damp. If this test shows no moisture then you don't have to worry about sealing the concrete. In any case most engineered floor systems use a thin plastic foam sheet that when completely taped at the joints serves as both padding and a vapor barrier.
