There is a crossover point in one VS the other. A 3.05ghZ Quad core is going to kick butt compared to a 3.40GHz Dual Core single thread/core Actual bottom line, if you are running Windows 7, the number of cores is going to perform much better than a single core CPU at a higher Clock rate.

I have a gaming laptop, a pc and a Playstation 3. If you already have a laptop or a pc, go for the Playstation 3. Otherwise, of course you really can't miss a laptop/pc so go for the laptop. Acer laptops are generally bad. I have had friends and family who had Acer laptops and they all 'died' within a year or just over a year. I would never go for a Acer. Just google Acer and see what the user reviews say Its not that good!

Macs have a much longer life than PCs do, yes they keep coming out with new versions but it doesn't make the previous versions obsolite it just improves on what is already there. Some people don't like Macs but that is liekly because they don't know how to use them, I use macs at work and at home and I've found them easy to use, you don't have to worry about viruses or spyware. I think they are great and worth every penny. You will probably end up spending more in the long run on your PC getting it fixed and buying the most updated version of virus protection. Many of the programs are designed for non techie people who want to do photo editing, or using their iPod everything is very functional and easy to use. I would recomend getting the applecare just in case, you never know when the person putting together the computer has had a bad day.

Does higher quality mean it'll last much longer? Example, will a 1400$ laptop last twice as long as a 700$ laptop?

From my 20+ years of owning computers, here’s some advice. Don’t think of it as “buying a computer”. You are “BUYING THE RIGHT TO USE A COMPUTER FOR THE TIME BEING”. In general, the more you pay the longer it will last (but paying double is not double the time). Of course it depends on many things, but to simplify…as you pay more and more, the extra-future value gained diminishes. I can’t guarantee an exact “formula” as this would be predicting the future. Assuming it doesn’t break…it usually goes by software. Software generation time is 2-3 years so if your computer can run software “just right” now, the next generation of the same software should be “too slow” so you want to upgrade to another computer that can run it “just right” again. If it’s “super fast” now, then in 2-3 years it can run the new versions “just right”…but then you might have been spoiled and need a new “super fast” computer again! :) It’s a matter of preference. Technically it can last like say 20 years (excluding battery), but do you want to use ancient software and type while people have robot slaves they can talk to? ;) Also, new technologies and interfaces come out so if your computer doesn't have it, you will have to expand it by cards (if available) or you can't use the new peripherals. Desktops are easier to upgrade than laptops. Like and old computer might not have a USB port and can't accept flash drives.

Very good questions Yes, you can work with the adapter attached into your laptop. No harm will result by doing so. My laptop is always attached to my adapter whenever possible. The safest way to attach the adapter is to connect it to the laptop first and then to an outlet. Doing it this way will prevent causing an electrical shock at the laptop's connector. A shock at the laptop's connector can cause damage to the connector. Connect laptop first and wall outlet second to avoid damage then power on.
