Q:I recently had a repair done to my vehicle, and on the bill,they noted wheel bearings make noise. I went back in to ask the mechanic, and he stated to me that if I drive down the road I hear a roaring noise, and those are my wheel bearings. I asked him if this is something I should get taken care of right away, and he stated, no, not until it is very loud, so loud that you cannot drown the noise out with the car radio. Is this an accurate answer, or should I take care of this sooner rather than later. Can anyone give me a ballpark figure of what it would cost to have my front wheel bearings replaced? Thank you.

If okorder . I'm sorry you encountered such a lame mechanic as wheel bearing noise is a great indicator the right, left or both should be throughly inspected and serviced. Im sure you don't want the dirty son of a gun to seize of fall off the car while you're driving.

If the bearings aren't sealed, blast the insides where all the little ball bearings are with a degreaser spray, or WD-40 if you have no degreaser. Repack the bearings with some white lithium grease. You can get that in a small tube for a couple bucks--plenty to do all your bearings with.

Q:okay...lemme explain...i have an experiment in my criminalistics class on improvised weaponry and I figured, hey, stupid...(that's me) this sounds like a great(dangerous and stupid,with potential for serious bodily harm) idea. Use marbles. im positive they wont mess up the gun, just make sure they're the right size. And I'm sure that it will hurt like crap. I did it and it busted ahole in my freakin' fence.

Q:My car has no oil pressure and they said I need a pump and main and rod bearings. Can I just replace the pump? Or can you tell the bearings are shot by just hearing it?

because of the fact's a extra cutting-edge gm engine, i might guess that's a collapsed piston. the skirt of a collapsed piston will make a knocking sound because of the fact that is hitting the cylinder wall. if the noise is loudest while the engine is first began in spite of the undeniable fact that it each so often is going away, i may be almost particular that that's a piston.

Q:Well i recently bought a pro scooter and bout ABEC 11 bearings. I want to know if the higher number is better or the lower number?

ABEC numbers are nonsense for skates, boards, or scooters. It is a number for vibration in high speed industrial equipment at speeds that would be past 200mph on a board. It can actually be detrimental since the smaller tolerances that are required for the higher numbers by the spec can mean more friction. Bearing friction is way less than the drag caused by rolling wheels. The top of the line bearings actually do not have an ABEC rating since the companies are designing them specificaly for human powered motion and have opened up some of the specs to reduce friction while keeping other parts tight.

Q:Wich 1s should i use and why?

Abec isn't a brand you morons, it's a rating system. I've skated a few Rush Abec 5's before, they were really smooth bearings but they didn't last as long as some bearings I've had in the past. The only Blind Lifetakers I know of was a series of wheels they brought out about a decade ago, and they were horrible haha. If they are now doing bearings under the same name, I haven't tried them out. However Dwindle products (Blind, Almost, Enjoi, etc) have been great quality recently, so they might be worth a try. I'm sorry that wasn't much help on your decision, but with a lot of things in skateboarding, you have to try them out for yourself to see if you like them personally, as different people like different things. I personally skate Bones Super Swiss, they are expensive but a set usually lasts me about 2 years, so they are worth the money in the long run.

Q:so how often should i? and what cream do u use? im planning on getting the lube at my local skate shop... do u think they wood have it or is it not a skate lube?i herd u can put them in gasoline overnight, does that work?im open to any and all suggestions

Only need to be cleaned when needed--slow or noisy or if you skate in water. Clean in denatured alcohol. Lubricant is not a cleaner. Don't use WD-40 or Gasoline. Both leave a film that attracts dirt and gasoline is dangerous. Use 1-2 drops of lube per bearing. rubber shielded and metal shielded with c clip bearings can be cleaned. Crimp on shields can't be removed. If you see prongs sticking up around the shield, they are crimp type. They have to be replaced.

Q:I was just wondering if getting ball bearings for the Traxxas Rustler is a good idea and if it would save batteries. I have a Traxxas Slash (which has ball bearings) and it lasts longer with the batteries

Q:what is the advantage and disadvantage of water-lubricated bearings?

The main advantage of a water cooled bearing is you can use the a portion of the water from the pump discharge to lube the bearings. That way you can always be assured of the lubricating fluid supply and do not have to relay on another pump. Some pumps do use another source, especially if the water being pumped is dirty, but it is still cheap and non-contaminating if some leaks into the pumped fluid. However, water is not always a good lube especially on pumps with high speeds and/or mechanical loads. Water is not very viscous and becomes less so with increased temperature. Even small 3600 rpm pumps will use oil for lubrication. Some large, high pressure pumps will have their own oil pumping and cooling system for the bearings.

Q:what solvents are good for cleaning skateboard bearings?

Honestly... unless you have very good bearings, the best thing youc an do is toss them and get a new set. Most bearings are inexpensive and rather cheaply made. If you are using something like bones swiss, then take care of them and they can last for years. What do I use to clear my swisses? Gasoline. Its dangerous, but nothing works better. Honestly, just get a new set if you are riding cheap bearings.
