Q:hello, i had a oil leak in my car witch ended up in a seized engine, i have taken the sump off and taken off the bolts of the conrods and the shells are very damaged, it seems i can now turn over the engine when the conrod bearings are removed, if the conrod bearings are damaged does this meen that the shells on the main crank bearings will be damaged aswell? would it be possible to replace these bearings without removing the crankshaft, also one of the conrod bolts is a little bit rounded off , how would i take this of and could i buy new bolts ? thanks

No shortcuts here. The crankshaft needs to be turned to accept new oversize bearings (if it's bad enough you may need a new or used turnable crank) and the con rods should be reconditioned. Basically a whole bottom end rebuild but it would be a mistake to not rebuild the head(s) at the same time.

Q:How do you CHANGE WHEEL BEARINGS on a Suzuki Quad? I can see the outside one (there are two per side) but I am not sure how to remove and reinstall them. Are there special tools needed? What are the steps?THANKS!

Q:This makes no sense to me...you put a little grease into a bearing cap, the bearings are looser, and they run better. Heat down.So you put in a lot of grease they should be too loose or run too slick. But that's not what happens in real life. Instead, they overheat. Why on Earth would they overheat? It's not like they are lacking needed air to cool down. Can anyone explain?

Bearing manufacturer's recommend 25%-33% fill for the voids in radial ball bearings. They cite shear, and churning as sources of volitalization of the grease which leads to loss of the lightest fractions; and reduction of lubricity. See the source below:

Q:My 2000 4x4 Lifted Ford Excursion has a clicking noise when I am driving, on the front driver side. I can take my foot off the gas an it is still there no matter the speed. I am thinking it is a bad Hub/Bearing? How would I know for SURE that is what it is? Any tips on what to look for if I jack it up? Thanks.

It doesn't sound like wheel hubs. When the hubs are bad, it usually makes a grinding noise, rather than a clicking noise.

Actually - you would think that it was 'higher the bearing - the better' BUT Not SO! When I went to buy my sons skateboard at Xmas from ROUTE ONE in Cambridge, England - they explained it to me. The higher rating, eg- ABEC 9's, is to do with how they make the bearing. The higher number is how tight they are packed (or something along those lines...). The skaters who worked in RouteOne told me that they all use ABEC 5's. So, if the experts use them.... they must be okay. Bev
