- Hi there, Your post doesn't say exactly how your current power nozzle is working at the moment. But i'll give you a general answer anyway. I am a technician for vacuum cleaners (and an authorised agent for rainbow). Basically there are two possibilities for the problem. The first is the bearings for the brush roller. over time the bearings can wear and stop allowing the brush to spin properly, this puts strain on the motor and can cause damage to the brush and roller. It is simple to diagnose though. Turn on your power head as per normal but with the base plate removed so you can listen more clearly. Then take the brush out so the motor is just turning with no load. If it sounds smooth with the brush out then it is more likely that it is the bearings for your brush rather than the motor that needs replacing. As a side point even if it is the motor that is noticeably faulty, it is worth replacing the brush bearings anyway so you get the best possible improvement from your work. - The electric powered vacuum cleaner as we know it was invented by James murray spangler who was a janitor, he made it using a box a pillowcase a fan motor as well as a few other odds and ends this eventually leads to the start of the Hoover Company and Spanglers machine was the Model O, there are other designs that predate this which were manually powered, gas engine powered, and bellow powered. It's main purpose was to make the cleaning of rugs and carpeting easier. Of course with any machine there will be some misuse of it i have heard of people trying to clean the bottom of their pools with household vacuum cleaners

- Vacuum cleaners have suction that is way too powerful to use on internal organs. Didn't you see the 1000 Ways to Die episode where the idiot used a shop vac to perform his own liposuction and disemboweled himself and bled to death? Same principle. Besides, pumping the stomach would not help with food poisoning, which comes from bacteria or toxins in the food. By the time you use a pump, the bacteria or toxin is in the bloodstream and your vacuuming action is futile.

- Consumer Reports does an excellent job of reviewing vacuums. For this purchase alone it is worth the online subscription price. No one vacuum is best for all persons. It depends on your floors (carpet or hard surface) the predominate dirt you will be dealing with (pet hair vs. heavy) your willingsness to work with a heavy machine, whether you have one or two machines (floor vs. steps and furniture) etc. From my personal experience, the right vacuum for you is wonderful and should last for years. The wrong one will make you crazy and you will want to throw it out the window.

- They are absolutely worth it if you own your house and care about cleanliness, and the life of your floor covering. I have done side by side tests using many many different vacuums, including dyson, electrolux, oreck, rainbow, and all the junk ones you can buy at department stores...using test pads. the only vacuum that even came close in value was a central vac. other than that, kirby is by far the best IF you can afford one.
- Q:which upright is best out of the department store brands? (Oreck, bissell, dyson, eureka, etc?) Recommendations should be for less than $500.
