Q:Why would a 1960's homebuilder use insulation on the roof rafters?
No building codes back then, and maybe he was thinking about putting an extra room up there then you would have to insulate the rafters also
Q:where a cwsc is located in the roof space of a dwelling and the space beneath it contains thermal insulation?
struggling to understand your question! are you talking about a storage tank? what is the problem with the insulation? if it is in the way move it but insulation under a tank is not a problem the tank will need to be insulated any way!
Q:Can I install rigid insulation between roof decking and shingles on a sloped roof?
Lot of info missing to give you a good answer. Thickness of insulation. Slope of roof. But what it really comes down to is the building code in your area, contact local building inspector,
Q:how can I insulate a ceiling that has an aluminum roof?
With Reynolds wrap.
Q:How do I insulate an attic with only 5 inches between the inner ceiling and roof?
there is not any way no how ever that a roofing nail is going to show 4 to 5 inches after dealing with shingles and plywood. that should recommend a 5 a million/2" to 6 a million/2" nail. and there is only the slightest quantity of buckle and/or carry earlier the summer time solar flattens it completely. you should call in an self sufficient roof repairer and have him recommend you. until eventually you're seeing issues very incorrect, this is an entire screw-up. If it fairly is actual, then the extra important question is .....in the event that they could do some thing this nuts, what else have they botched? If self sufficient roof repairer supplies you undesirable information, do no longer seek advice from contractor until eventually you have first talked to an attorney.
Q:Good uses for leftover foam roof insulation from a flat roof?
I'm a bit confused here Andy. If the flat roof needs replacing, when it is removed what is revealed is going to be exactly what you would see if you removed the ceilings. So why consider removing the ceilings if they are ok? When the flat roof is replaced put the insulation in then. Whilst rockwool would have been the material to use there is now roofing insulation board that is much more efficient, 50mm board gives equivalent insulation of something like 150mm rockwool. If the flatroof isn't fitted with suitable vents to keep it ventilated fit them when the roof is done too. The only reason I can see for replacing the ceiling plasterboard is if it hasn't got a vapor barrier ie foil backed board.
Q:If you are putting a new roof on, shouldn't you put new insulation in?
sound like the roofer wants to RIP you off, you Mop or spread a coating not put shingles on it,[A Trailer,] you don,t mess with the insulation, its under the roof. tell him to hit the road he is setting you up for a big mess,
Q:what is the best insulation to use blown or fiberglass over an already fiberglass insulated roof?
Blown in is easier, cheaper and can be a DIY project. Just make sure you don't block the soffitts that allow air to circulate.
Q:do i leave air gap in attic roof for insulation?
The best way to set up an attic is to put a vapor barrier under the rafters (before nailing on the gyproc), then put the insulation (fibreglas batts) between the rafters to full depth (10 or 12 inches). Soffit vents are installed under the eaves at the sides of the roof, and gable vents are placed near the peak of the roof at the ends. This allows for airflow resulting from convection, particularly important in the summer months to remove heat buildup in the attic. If the insulation is adequate, it will not only isolate this heat buildup from the inside of the house in summer, but will prevent heat loss to the attic in winter. (The airflow in winter will be minimal, but will remove any moisture/condensation that might collect otherwise.)
Q:Are flat roofs the best roof structure for insulation?
For insulation, what is important is the material it is done and how it is positioned (different materials used on the same roof), and not it if flat or anything else.
