Great question. This is one of those stances that I believe can be more static in nature. I think this stance, as Kokoro points out, is a great example of a lying-on-the-floor technique without actually having to lie on the floor. There are 3 kinds of crane stances, that I'me aware of: 1) the left foot is placed behind the right knee and the left foot's shin is perpendicular to the floor 2) the left foot is placed next to right knee and the left foot's shin is perpendicular to the floor 3) the left foot is placed next to right knee and the left foot's shin is ANGLED (sticks out to the left) to the floor in method 1), the application can represent a bind, hook, or pull toward you, of opponet's knee/shin while standing or lying down. in method 2), the there are a couple of applications: 2a) it is a on-the-floor position where you are mounted; your knee up represents keeping the distance open between you and opponent. 2b) it is a chamber of sorts to a jumping front snap kick (some call this a crane kick, which was a question that was asked about this a day or two ago) - and Shadam mentions this again in this question 2c) it is a check or block of a kick or weapon, as Liondancer mentions. in method 3), the application represents that your opponent is kicked to the inside of the knee: either to disable or to sweep.

OK... So what has your homework actually asked you to explain? Can you post the question...? There are moment forces going through a crane, is the aim of the homework simply for you to explain what a moment force is using a specific example ? A crane can be thought of in simple terms as a cantilever, ie one supported end and one free end, the lever arm force as it is sometimes referred to in schools is actually the moment force i.e. the moment for a crane with a boom L=40m long lifting a load of P=10kN would beP*L = 10*40 = 400 kNm, this is ignoring the self weight of the boom, if the boom weighed W=1.5kN/m (thats per meter, not to be confused with kNm which is kilo newton meters) then the moment generated by the self weight would be (WL^2)/2 = (1.5*40^2)/2 = 1200kNm so the total moment would be 1600kNm, so just remember for a point load the moment is force * distance from support ( in cantilevers) hope this helps... :)

Ok, I can help. The first step is to take the crane stock off. To do so, extend the stock fully. Then, take the tab you use to extend it, and instead of pushing up to extend it, pull it down and slide the stock off. It make take some force. Be careful of any wires and that you don't break them! Next: take the buffer tube out. Take a long phillips head screw driver and stick it down the shaft. Remove the screw. The whole tube should come out. Don't lose the screw! Next: Install your stock. Next: Screw the screw back in to secure the stock. Done! Make sure the wires are still ok and that they are not pinched!
