Q:Senior citizens: What is the basis for the notion that older adults prefer wood rocking chairs?
I have a rocking chair which I just love - and it is wooden; I wasn't aware that there was any other kind. Mine happens to give me great back support and I like to rock. I also like the style of my particular chair - it's unique. I had back surgery in 1975 and usually always have a backache. I went to a pain clinic way back when and the doctor recommended bucket seats in the car and rocking chairs - and it was excellent advice. Notice that JFK used a rocker for his bad back as well.
Q:Have you ever broke a chair??
I had a chair that was actually a vanity chair (to put on makeup while in front of the mirror) I used it for my sewing machine. The seat one day decided to fall through and having a small butt I fell through the chair. It just decided to fall apart.
Q:How do I make a tent with blankets and chairs?
take four chairs, i use the ones from my dining room with nice points edges. space them out and place them facing away from each other ( like if people were going to sit facing away from everyone). get a biggg blanket and throw it over the chairs. (i reccomend a big but thin blanket so it will stay up, a bed sheet will also work well cause you can stretch the elastic around the chairs.) if your chairs have rounded edges duct tape the blanket to the chairs, or maybe put a pillow on the chair and tuck the blanket beneath it so it stays. if the blanket is too heavy you might have to place a book or something on the chairs to weight them down. next, if you want, you can throw a smaller blanket over just two of the chairs and let it hang off the side to make a door kind of. or, throw towels lengthwise over the middle of the big blanket to make doors. use pillows on the inside to cover up empty spaces and in between the chairs. BE CREATIVE! Hope this helps! :)
Q:Where was the Queen Anne (English) chair first manufactured?
The chairs were designed for Her Majesty's comfort and would have been designed and erected by the Master Carver of the Royal household. It incorporates cabriole legs which comes from ancient China. During the reign of Queen Anne the master carver and joiner of the Royal Household was a Charles Hopson, although the chair may not be primarily designed by him. Hopson, who was later knighted to become Sir Charles Hopson, is also responsible for much of the woodwork in St. Paul's Cathedral. I'm afraid, this is all the information I am aware of.
Q:How would you go about recovering this chair?
It depends upon whether you want a custom fit (what it has now) or a slip cover. If you want a custom fit, you take off the fabric that is now on the chair and use it as a template/pattern to cut the white fabric. You sew it together, then apply the new white cover, finishing off with whatever they used to hide the last touches. You may need a staple gun, tacks and hammer, etc., and you can buy lots of helpful upholstry gadgets at shops that carry such items. They've got some of the neatest items! If you want a slip cover then you measure everything after you decide how you want to cut the pieces of fabric. You'll be able to use quite long lengths in places, then you start sewing smaller pieces on - but this all depends upon your planning. You could use straps or flaps or nails under the seat to hold it on but slip covers generally don't fit tightly.
Q:Is it possible to add rollers to a pedestal chair?
As long as the chair is a comfortable height, you can put casters on any chair and make it mobile. Go to your furniture store or a large dept. store or online to see what size you make need.
Q:fleas in my chair???????????
Do you have a pet? If so, get it treated and fleas will go away.
Q:Any ideas on how to come up with cheap chair covers?
Not knowing exactely what the chairs look like, maybe... try placing a white pillow case or a solid color one (your chosen colors will be great) over the back of them. It would provide more of a uniform yet custom look. Congratulations on your nuptials and new life!
Q:Teen/Tween Lounge Chair?
Do you have a Big Lot where you live? I saw some at our local Big Lot.
Q:Does anyone have the Brio high chair?
Our grandson is 2 now and it has been easy to adjust it to fit his desire for independence. My daughter and son-in-law recently took the seat rail off so he can get up to sit down all on his own. We initially had reservations about getting it due to the price, but we have been very happy with it. I recommend it.
