Q:Found a very old wooden chair from what I think could be the 1900s. Do you know what type of chair this is called?...how would I look it up to know its worth. The bottom of the chair has a GB or CB stamp on it. Would you know how much somthing like this would go for? Thanks :)

Q:I plan on making some chair covers for a reception next summer. I would like to try to make them myself, but was wondering how many yards it would take for each cover. I want to use cheap white fabric as long as it's not see through.

If you're going to the expense of having cloth chair covers, DO NOT use plastic table cloths. It will look incredibly TACKY. The best way to handle this situation is to find a seamstress who can sew the necessary table cloths. You can find great fabric on sale then pay the seamstress to make the table cloths. Doing so will be cheaper AND will give a more personal touch to your decor since you can really pick fabric that ties your decor together.

Q:My chairs are currently breaking down and me and so I am looking for replacements. I have a brown high table with four high chairs that each have a creme color cushion. I am looking for any chairs that are similar to the ones I have. Does anyone know of a shop or someplace that are just selling the chairs for a reasonable price. Thank you!!

Q:I have a reception site booked at a church. Unfortunately they only have fold-up chairs. We want something nicer but are on a VERY small budget.Can we put slipcovers on fold-up chairs?

Yes you can, you just have to get the measurements right but they are not cheap... how about sashes for the chairs instead in a nice colour. They are cheaper where we live and brighten up the room. You could even have the coloured sash with a flower in the middle of the back of the chair where the bow is formed....

Q:I am looking into buying this chair because I think it is beautiful! I plan on reupholstering it in some colorful fabric. She says there are no markings except for a sticker that claims it was reupolstered in 1987 or 1977 hard to read. There are 2 wheels on the front 2 legs. Other than that I do not know much about it. I am thinking pre 1950s. Are those the origenal rollers if so a look at the rubber in them will tell more. Mabey 1920s.

On the surface it seems to be a great deal ; a $ 500 swivel chair for $100. But since you know(I hope you did) that Rent A Center only sells used items that it has previously rented out to other people, you have to be careful what you buy from them.Some items that were rented out and then sold cheaply were later found to be infected with bed bugs, other types of bugs, caked fecal matter, discoloration from urine either from pets or people ,and other stuff. So check your chair carefully and if clean then relax and enjoy your purchase.

Q:Hi. I want to attempt to make a murphy chair/sofa , yet do not wish to pay a whole lot of money which I do not have. Any suggestions? I would love to cover the bottoms (the part which is on the outside when folded) with padding, so one could still sit on the floor without difficulty.

You could make the actual chair seat with scraps of wood and buy a hinge so it will fold up. You could also use an old chair seat.You might have something available at your home. Make sure the piece that is attached to the wall is properly secured to a stud in the wall. Go to Joann Fabric or any similar store and you can get some 2 foam (padding) to put over the seat. I would cover the foam with some fabric and slide it on the seat (like a pillowcase). Buy some fabric adhesive spray and adhere the back to the seat or.....you could use Velcro to keep it snug. You could hand stitch the fabric, if necessary. Be Creative.....You can do it!!!

Q:i tried buying her a scratcher, she uses it, but she still scratches my wood room set chairs. its getting annoying. no matter how much i yell her, does it anyway.

You could try putting double-sided tape on the areas that the cat scratches on the chairs. It's totally harmless (she won't want to scratch the chairs if they're sticky) and it won't harm your furniture either. Some pet stores also sell a spray that you can buy that people can't smell, but it smells bad to cats. This works for us too. Once she sees that she can't go near the chairs, she'll go right back to using the scratcher. Good luck :)
