Take it to the bank with the power of attorney. I doubt they'll cash it outright but they should allow you to open an account in his name. I would go to a bank that you do business with regularly and talk to someone other than a teller. Nothing wrong with tellers but they have limited authority. If you son has a bank account anywhere, just deposit it in his account.

Q:I think my father who passed away in February may have had a bank account in South Carolina. I am not sure if he did or not. I know that if he did it would have to go through probate. My question is does it have to go through probate just to find out if he even had a bank account or not?? The bank account May be based out of a bank in South Carolina and I live in Michigan. What are the steps that I need to go through in order to find out if a bank account does actually exist.

Probates has to be filed on the state level by the executor of his estate. It is up to the executor to claim all his accounts by sworn affidavit. You probably want to start on the state level first to see if it went through probate.

Q:I'm building an ion accelerator which is based off of an ion generator and a coilgun. The ion generator is complete, but I'm looking for a good power supply for the coilgun portion's electromagnet. What is a good sized capacitor bank for this type of application, aiming for extremely short but powerful bursts. Also, is there a good online store to find cheap high capacitance capacitors?

In a delta there are 3 terminals placed like the corners of an equilateral triangle. You put a capacitor between each pair of corners. Automatic controls is something entirely different.

Sure. It means your power supply, the one you have in your hands, has been operated on a load bank that draws the maximum rated power from the supply for a specific amount of time. It is similar to having an automobile engine run on a test stand at maximum design RPM for a specific amount of time. It is a good thing. Typically a sample of the production run is tested, perhaps 1 in 50, this way and all are plugged in for a few moments to make sure they operate and produce acceptable voltages but that test fails to isolate marginal components. The power supply normally won't be operated long enough for the whole power supply to get to full operating temperature. Temperature is what kills electronics. As components get hot their values change. That change is frequently in the direction that allows more current flow. More current means more heat and this vicious circle continues until something smokes and the supply stops working, best case, or it sets something on fire, worst case. The company that built your supply cared enough to test every supply it makes to the same degree as the cheaper companies test sample supplies. You shouldn't have any trouble with a unit tested this way. At least not for a long time. Congratulations, it sounds like you have an eye for the better stuff on the shelf.

Q:I bought a brand new looking Dodge Power Wagon 318 for $1500, what a steal. I am wanting to make it a project truck to show up all the mexicans with their fancy little cars that show off a lot.
