Q:What is Spanish Tile?
Mexican tile, also known as Spanish tile, is a broad term used to describe a number of tile materials on the market, ranging from saltillo to hand made ceramic tiles sporting traditional Spanish and Mexican designs. Regardless of the type of tile you choose, you can count on Mexican tile to add a warm, pastoral, south of the border flair to any space in which you have it installed. Saltillo Tiles Saltillo tile is by far the most common of the Mexican and Spanish tiles found on the market. It is made from raw clay traditionally pressed by hand, and has an earthy, rough, almost terra cotta look to it. Depending on the firing, saltillo tiles range from deep yellow to deep orange in color, and come in a large variety of tile shapes, everything from your basic square to hexagonal and more elaborate patterns. Because of the nature of the clay and the more traditional form of production, these tiles are more porous than other ceramic tiles. As such, they should always be sealed with a quality sealant to protect them from stains and spills, which they would readily soak up if not protected. They will also need to be periodically re-sealed. Don't think of this as a downside, however. Like with hardwood, refinishing your saltillo will revive your floor, keeping it looking like new far past the time when other ceramics will have lost that newly installed look. On a final note, saltillo tiles get their name from the town in Mexico where they were originally, and still are, manufactured. If you get the real deal, and not an imitation variety, you can expect to find an odd chicken foot print or other animal print in your tiles when they are installed. Place these tiles in a prominent place in your tiling project for a great conversation starter and enjoy the rustic feel such imperfections will add to your finished product. Most tile floors, including Spanish tile, will feel cool to bare feet in both winter and summer.
Q:any advise about linoleum tiles?
Its wise to under take any DIY that you can do yourself, because you can save and also it gives you great satisfaction that you done it.Regarding the laying of the tiles its quite easy, before you start have a plan to how you going to lay them, especially the cutting ones near the edges. You can also move it over if the cut is to small. I think you have to heat them before you lay them as to make them more flexable, take care not too over heat them.Start with the full tiles first and leave the cutting for last....good luck
Q:does anybody know anything about laying ceramic tile?
The easties size is 12 x 12. Small tiles on the mesh are a real pain, each tile must be moved to get even. The tiles move around when you set in the morter. Tiles larger than 12 x 12 take extra care to keep level. Go slow.
Q:What is the basic role of tile glue?
7, anti-corrosion, acid. One of the most important applications of Beatte tiles is the use of thin-layer construction methods to paste tiles. The process is: the pre-packaged dry powder adhesive in the field and water mixed with a rectangular tooth with a doctor blade will be mixed with the adhesive applied to the wall and the ground, before it is dry before the tile on the bar: The basic requirements for adhesives are: good construction, long opening time (time from smearing to dry), good slip resistance, sufficient deformation under various possible climatic conditions.
Q:best material to apply glass tiles?
Most of your thinsets are a latex thin set. Glass tile needs the step above this type. Always use a white thin set. Ceilings are a bit trickier since you ll need a good mastic . There are special techniques to do this but you asked for the best material. White extra modified latex thin set. Such as Super Flex by Tec, TA 391 if I remember right. But there are others on the market you can use. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Why the tile is not clean clean
To the hardware store to buy a bottle of hydrochloric acid, industrial used those, more than two, even when cleaning is not careful to get the hands of no problem, and to ensure that your tiles bright as new.
Q:Housing Appraisal: Hardwood vs. Ceramic Tile?
They would be the same. There is no place to adjust for individual items on a appraisal like flooring in the sales comparison approach. The appraiser can adjust for condition, age, effective age, quality of construction and they fall in to poor, fair, average, good and very good. One issue would be who wants a home will all tile flooring. The only place on an appraisal to adjust for flooring would be the cost approach and if the home is older than 5 years, no one puts any weight on the cost approach. I think real hardwood flooring would sell faster than all tile. Tile is nice in the baths or kitchen. Pergo and Laminate flooring is a cheep way to go and give you no more value than cheep carpet.
Q:Porcelain tile cutting, need help?
I've installed a lot of tile in my time and I'm a bit confused with some details in your Q. You state you understand the tiles NEED to be cut with a wet saw, which by the way isn't the only tool that works,,, and yet in the same sentence you state you HAD A PLAY?? and tiles chipped? I'll assume that maybe that's a coloquialism? Keep in mind that while porcelain is slightly different in the way the tiles are produced, it's still fired/glazed clay...Essentially Glass. Porcelain often has the tile color and grain running all the way through the tile. The design aids in chips being less visible. In tiling any area all cuts should be at the perimeters, or in areas where a column must be cut around, etc. The pieces of tile should have been crafted with the edges slightly depressed from the rest of the face of the tile, allowing for grouting. One answer has a good suggestion, in the mechanics of a wet saw. Whether or not you rented/borrowed/or bought one, the blade should be new, or nearly new, for every new job. The water dispersal should be even and constant during operation. Any guides should be secure to allow a square/non binding cut. I have various tools I use, always save the cuts for the last, and actually use a Di-Grinder with a Diamond blade, as often as I use the wet saw. Steven Wolf
