Q:ugly tile issue, ideas please?
YOUR IDEA IS BRILLIANT AND RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE
Q:installing ceramic tile floor question?
There is a really neat product called anti-fracture membrane available at most tile stores or in the tile section at home depot. The product is applied with a roller over your substrate whether concrete or backer board. A couple coats will prevent cracks from telegraphing up through your floor and prevent moisture from migrating up or down. Thinset is applied directly over the membrane. At work we trowell the thinset as flat as possible, no more than 1/2 thick and no more than 1/4 high. We also apply thinset to the back of the tile to insure a good bond. You shouldn't have to press the tile down very hard. Apply firm and even pressure to the tile pressing it down to your line. You can tap lightly on the tile to check for voids, you can hear if it is hollow. If you have to press really hard or if lots of thinset squeezes up between the tiles use less thinset. It can be frustrating at first but after a few tiles you should get the hang of it. A bucket of clean water and a sponge are helpful as even the best of us get a little thinset on the tile. good luck
Q:what are the pros and cons of having a ceramic tiled floor and a vinyl floor?
Ceramic tiled floor is very easy to clean ,but it is hard and cold , if you have older or kid , so it is not good. And its very heavey , so it's hard to install. However, vinyl flooring makes you feel comfortable , when you step on the ground . And it is elastic to avoid falling down to injury. What's more, you can choose click which is so light . Because you can install it by yourself .
Q:I plan to tile my bathroom. Can i tile over the existing tiles?
Tiling over existing tiles is never a good idea. You need to rip them out, and tile to the existing sub-floor if it is in good shape. Also, you need to remove the old glue or cement used to adhere the existing tiles. If you cannot remove the glue/cement and the sub-floor is in crappy condition, then rip it out and put in a new sub-floor. And yes, I do know about this, because I'm doing exactly that right now myself. Google up How to Tile....you will get many how to video's that will show you exactly what to do.
Q:Is there any kind of coating to change ceramic tile color?
I don't know much about tile. But I've taken a few ceramic classes And I know when you glaze you have to put it in a Fire Kiln. To even activate the glaze. And I was taught if you missed a spot, and was to put more glaze on and fire it again, it could crack or burn the ceramic. I don't know how this works on tile though. (they come already fired from the factory don't they?) Maybe you could remove the current glaze somehow? And then do a glossy paint. Because if tile is anything like ceramics you'd have to take it off the wall and fire it again. Sorry I don't know anything about tile.
Q:kitchen floor tile sealant?
Tile Lab, Cerama Seal and Miracle 511 is the 3 main ones I ve used over the years with out a problem. Get one that is a penetrating sealer which can be used on grout as soon as 72 hrs after grouting. But if you truly have a stone and not a glazed product you ll want to seal the tiles before grouting and then 72 hrs after to seal the grout and then seal the grout twice, Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Remodeling bathroom..Drilling a hole in porcelain tile?
This hole should be around 1/2 so you can use a typical masonry bit that is 1/2. Start the hole like the other writer proposed with a nail to de-glaze the tile then center the bit where you chipped off some of the glaze and start your hole drilling s-l-o-w-l-y. Any drill that can accept the 1/2 bit will work.
Q:Filling holes in bathroom tiles?
Since this is now a hole you don t want to use any grout or thin set since these are cement based and will wick water through the hole. Tile caulk which you can get to compliment the tile or grout color is just ok to but I don t suggest these types of caulks. They are silicone and latex based and are water soluble. Best thing to use is a pure silicone caulk. Unless your tiles are white a clear caulk would look the best just to hide the holes . Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:Cost of putting vinyl tile down in basement?
The self adhesive vinyl tile, which you can do yourself costs anywhere from 89cents to 99cents at home depot. Figure any where from $560-$620 as an average price. Good luck on your project!
Q:Questions about laying bathroom floor tiles?
pull up the vinyl and mortar AND screw down Hardybacker board . dont buy that crap gypsum board from lowes or that foam stuff. dont EVER lay tile down over wood... EVER lay your tile 1/4 inch away from the walls. and then your base board and base shoe will lay over the tile and it'll look great. grab some 1/8 spacers.... lay with a 1/8th inch gap and it will look much nicer.
