Q:I have a light fixture with odd wiring. two sets of wires in, both blacks connected and the white wires free how do i install?
Possibly the box was wired using 2-conductor romex as a switch leg. That means one of the blacks is the power into the fixture box. It connects to the other black that goes to the switch. From the switch, the white is used to feed power back to the fixture. Hence you have one white that is neutral and one that is energized. This is not your fault but is 100% wrong, against code and is dangerous for someone like you that is trying to figure out what was done. Switch legs are accomplished using three conductors; one red, one black and one white. Use a current tester and see if you have one white that is hot and one that is neutral. If so, use a black magic marker and color the hot white one black. Do the same where it attaches to the switch.

If the wire connectors at the regulator are corroded or not making a good connection, that can cause the wires to get hot. On my Kaw, I ended up having to remove the connectors and solder the ends together to keep them from getting hot enough to melt the plastic surrounding the connectors.

disconnect the outlet in your ceiling and expose the wiring and hardwire the new light this way, using the supplied wire nuts etc... if its an older home you may have trouble matching the new wiring scheme (black wire, white wire, copper wire) to what is existing in your ceiling... turn the juice off before you try (at the switch that controls the light and throw the breaker or pull the fuse just to be safe) thats always the way it works... attach the ground wire to a screw that holds up the new light (if its not grounded all the way through the circuit it wont matter anyway) if you have an electricity tester try and determine which wire is hot and connect the black wire to that one, white wire to the other one.. maybe you can tell by the way the outlet was wired which one was carrying the load if you look closely at where the connections were made, often times those hot screw terminals will be differnt color than the neutral (gold vs silver?).. if all else fails i would say the blue marked one was marked for a reason, probably to show that it is hot.
