- Q:where can I find free pattern to weave a rug on a rigid weaving loom?
- Are you working on a rug now? As you know, a rigid heddle loom has limitations. You can only do plain weave, and for a rug, this is just fine. If you are using rag strips, that is even better. The patterning will come from the colour of the horizontal stripes you are weaving. You can change them at will, or according to a set pattern. The patterns are only limited to your imagination! I would make a small drawing on paper and then just use coloured pencils or crayons to make horizontal stripes. If you have patterned material to work with, you may not need to make much of a design because the wefts (the cross threads) will make a design of their own. How wide is your rigid heddle? Most are fairly narrow -- perhaps up to 22 wide. Your rug is going to be quite narrow. You may want to piece two of them together side by side, and that offers further possibilities for creating a pattern. Just go wild!! You can do anything you want.

- Design rule is that your rug should be 24 behind the chair with someone seated. Mine is much less, maybe 12-18 and works fine. Jute will work but it's a bit hard to clean. On the plus side, it doesn't show spills too much. If you have cats, they might think that you bought it for their scratching needs. Invest in a good rug pad if you want to extend the life of your rug, or the rug is thin or stiff enough to slip.

- I have another suggestion. Two products that are more concentrated that nail polish remover; -- Goof-Off (NOT Goo-Gone). Try local hardware stores or Ace; big-box stores don't carry this, I think. -- Bestine. Try Art's supplies stores. Both of these are very heavy-duty cleaners; you HAVE to have serious ventilation, like open windows and fans. But they are fabulous cleaners for tough spots. I blotted an ink-pen leak off of a raincoat with Goof-Off and it was like it had never been there after one blot. I also got some stuff that looked like melted silly putty out of carpet at rental property with Goof-Off. It took repeated pours/blots with a lot of paper towels, but it did dissolve the stuff. I found out about Goof-Off from a construction contractor. I think Bestine is raw chemical in nail polish remover. It is used to dissolve rubber cement and clean paste-up wax in graphics shops. I used to work with it, and it's a nasty but effective chemical. Just read/follow precautions on their labels, and be sure to test for color-fastness. If you do use one of these, be prepared to bag up the rags/paper towels etc. in several layers, and get them OUT. The fumes will permeate regular bags, and fill up your house and give you a major headache, aside from the risk from fumes igniting. I kid you not, be careful. They do the job but they are DUE respect.
- Q:Can regular liquid laundy detergent be used in a carpet cleaning machine?
- Nooooooooooo!!! You don't want anything that will make suds!!! Will clog and ruin the machine. Walmart makes a cleaning solutioncosts $12, is twice the size of the Bissell one and is called Pet and Odor Control. Works just as great as Bissell one...I've used it. Another idea: try using a bit of Oxyclean combined with a tiny bit of liquid Febreze (for fragrance). Shake it in the container to make sure it doesn't produce a lot of suds. Another idea: vinegar and baking soda solution mixed together (vinegar to disinfect and clean, same goes for baking soda).Personally, I hate the smell of vinegar (even though the smell dissipates as it dries...but yuck). Do NOT use those spray on foam cleaner solutions on the carpet either. Remember you also have the option of using the hot water rinse (if you have the Pro2X model). Remember not to saturate any area when using....small sections and get moisture out as you go. Then just when carpet is dry...use your vacuum to fluff up the fibers...carpet will come out soft.

- yes. carpets have lots of allergens in them You could also have fleas in the carpet. Keep your house very clean - dust and vacccum every week. See if this helps.
