Q:is it okay to wash rugs in the washing machine? it won't damage it, or cause damage to future loads?
yes if it fits and was inexpensive. don't do it if it was an expensive pile rug, oriental, or if you have contrasting colors- red and cream, black and white, etc. don't dry them in the dryer though.
Q:i am a 14 year old girl and i want to make my room bright and fun, but i have white carpet on my floor would it look okay to put a green rug on the carpet? yes or no. PLEASE HELP!
Yes. it's fine. I would avoid rugs with complicated patterns. Either a solid green or simple geometric shapes would be just fine. Put a couple of the throw pillows on your bed or change your pillow cases that match the rug.
Q:How to match the color of the carpet?
it best be your favorite color, if considering color collocation, darker color in bettter than the light color, you can also choose a dark carpet, with a white or light texture, suggest that you choose slightly dark color carpet
Q:We are looking for the best on the market, not the cheapest.
You shouldn t use a true pad or sorts. The best I ve seen for area rugs in a line called Rug Hold. Its a non skid underlay ment for rugs. Come in a wide variety of sizes and types . The type you need is for rug over hard surface. Now there are some felts that can be added to the backing of a rug but w/o seeing yours its hard to say if you can add it or not. Any padding for carpet will not work properly and actually be a tripping hazard, even a thin 1/4 rubber pad. Any question you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:What is the size of the carpet at the entrance?
There are many kinds of door carpet sizes, such as 60x90, 80x120, 40x 60, 50x 80 and so on.
Q:So i just signed a lease for my first apartment!! the down fall is that the rug is sooooooo ugly...it is in great shape so stains or sign of wear it is just puke yellow and brown...i cant describe how ugly.....any suggestions on what to do how to decorate or cover this thing up?(i have a white coach with red back pillows)
Purchase an area rug large enough to cover part or all of your ugly carpet.
Q:so in my room i have a carpet which my mother told me that when our apartment was built they sticked the carpet with a special glue... under the carpet there are tiles..... but the glue is stuck to the tiles and i pulled the carpet to see whats happening under it because i really want to remove it because its unhealthy.... and i poored hot water and chlorine on and i took a knife to scratch it and the tiles wallpaper (however the call that thing) disappears and all i see its something black... what is that and what can i do now???? i already ripped a lot my carpet... any suggestions? what is that black thing??? is it the cement of the tiles?
First you do not need to put chlorine in with the water. The black paper ( is that what it looks like?) could just be something that was used to even out the floor's surface. Forget the knives and scratching! Adhesives ( glues) are sometimes soluble with water.. Sometimes with heat - you heat the glue moderately with perhaps a steam iron or a hair dryer, the glue will loosen enough to pry back the carpet. Otherwise- and this is totally out of range of my experience- solvents are sometimes used. I would not recommend using any kind of flammable solvent. Instead of knives find a wide putty knife to help lift the carpet off the tiles, this will get a larger area up off the tiles and will not scrape or gouge the tiles nor is it likely to slip and cut you. And you can get one for a few dollars. Work a little at a time- maybe it will take you a day or two- and wear safety glasses when you pull up the carpet because it is easy to get a small carpet fiber into your eye and it is a pain to get it out!
Q:my son just spilled 18 litres of paint on his bedroom carpet - I have scooped up what I can but there is obviously a massive paint puddle on the carpet - it is emulsion (non-oil based) - and suggestions?
You can try vinegar, that is what people use to get wine up. The best would be paint thinner but it would probably bleach the carpet.
Q:A piece of paper caught on fire, fell on the carpet, I put the fire out and it burned the carpet and the paper melted into the carpet. Using soap and alcohol, I got rid of most of the blackness, but the parts where it's actually burned is still black. How can I get rid of this mark? Would using bleach work?
Depends on the type of carpet..(and how deep the burnt fibers go).. But any time I have damaged a carpet or rug, I have had success with a simple, disposable, Bic shaver..and a pair of very sharp, thinning shears (for thinning hair). Ultra sharp shears work, too. Don't try BLEACH, whatever you do! Bleach will remove color and you'll have a hideous mess if you use bleach. All you have to do is snip off the most offensive scorched fibers..and using the disposable shaver will help with the little bits that don't go very deep. Snip away at it..and continue to fluff it up with a large-tiened comb for wet hair..or a hairbrush. Try to only cut off the burned fibers. You don't want a big patch to be shaved/trimmed away. You can even trim away, gradually, around the trimmed away scorched section..so there isn't a noticeable different in carpet height. It may not look as good as new..but it will at least get it back to a consistent color..and far less noticeable. You can't really remove burned carpet fibers with anything..since it isn't stained..it's blackened by burning. Hopefully, it only burned the very top, surface fibers..and once you trim/shave them away, the carpet will appear to be as it was (just a little shorter right there). Once it becomes matted down (like the rest of the carpet) you likely won't notice it. There's always an all-over, room re-decorating..rearranging the furniture and a large, sturdy piece of furniture goes right there. Or, throw rugs. Good Luck.
Q:My living room/dining room is 15x22 and we've just installed hard woods. I want an area rug so my dogs won't be as likely to scratch the floors. What size should I go with where online can I find one at a decent price?
I'm not sure what you consider a decent price but I have a 9x12 persian in a 12x17 space that was around $1800. If you're dogs are hard on rugs, you might want to look at Frontgate or Grandinroad catalogs or online. They offer indoor/outdoor polypropolene rugs that look like designer rugs, are soft, and to clean they just need to be hosed down. I picked up a 9 x 12 Acanthus style for $325 for a high traffic area space.
