- Q:I just removed a Australian light switch that I've never seen before that controlled a bathroom ceiling fan and the bathroom light. (both buttons on a single panel switch)I have a black wire coming from the switch box that has 2 other black wires splitting out from the connection point, one of each going to the fan and the light. And a single black wire going to the ceiling fan and a red wire to the light.I'm just putting in your everyday off/on switch one for each the fan and the light. any help? what are the positive and negative wires?
- Here in the USA we use Black and Red for power (positive) , a white wire for a neutral and green (or bare copper) for ground. I am guessing that the red and black are the independent power wires and the other black wires are the main power. the use of a multimeter should be used to verify which is which. Since your putting in a single switch (which is a interrupter) where you have one black splitting to two, remove the 2 wires and make it a single wire and attach to the line side of the switch. Then connect the red and black wire for light and fan with a 3rd wire (tail piece) and attach the tail wire to the load side of the switch., Remember to test your power source first. If in doubt, hire a electrician. No one wants a fire!!!! Better to be safe then sorry.
- Q:I accidently spilled soda all over a bunch of wires and controllers. I cleaned the controllers off and they're not sticky, but what should i do about the wires?
- Stick them in uncooked rice overnight along with any other wet electronics such as cellphones, etc. Make sure you use enough rice to completely cover the item. It will absorb any moisture. Do not eat the rice afterward.
- Q:I recently took out my old ceiling fan, and now there is a Black, Red, And White Wire hanging from the ceiling, I bought a track light that has a box with a Green, White, and Black wire in it. Which wires am i supposed to connect,It's for the light Switch, and I'm not sure when the house was built, its a Reading, PA Row house.
- connect white to white, black to black and put a cap on the white one, and the green one goes to a screw in the light box.
- Q:I have 12/3 wire running from the breaker box on a 20 amp breaker that powers a bathroom (2 lights and 2 receptacles). I want to splice into this and run 14/2 wire into the living room to run 6 recessed lights. Is this OK to do?
- No you should either use a 20 amp breaker and 20 amp recepticles or if you use a 15 amp breaker then use 14/2 or 14/3 wire. Too heavy of wire creates a fire risk. If your new home was wired to code, this seems quite odd.
- Q:My renter took apart a timer that was hooked to a ceiling fan because the timer was clicking loudly. Now, I just want to simply install a normal on/off switch in it's place. There are two sets of wires coming into the box. One set has a red, white, and black wire coming from it. The other set has just a white and black wire coming into the box. I'm sure this is relatively simple for someone who has wiring expertise. How do I wire a normal light switch to these wires?!?!
- you ought to positioned the switching in earlier the low voltage transformer. If the light fixtures are all under pressure jointly, there's no way you have gotten the skill to preform this activity. you will ought to positioned the two light fixtures on one transformer and have the switched with or via the feed wires to the transformer. The final mild will must be via itself transformer and switched additionally with the a hundred and twenty volt feed. I woul hire an electrician a stable one, A union guy on the part or somthing. no longer your girlfrinds uncle chuck..
- Q:I did an engine swap with some friends and everything is in place, from the rebuild 700R4 w/ a shift kit, to the rebuild 350 bored .30 over. But all I have left to do is the wiring, but have no idea how to. So about how much would it cost to have a professional finish the wiring?
- Wait a sec. You recommend if Congress provides the administrative large potential to inspect on individuals, it will use it? Benghazi is a witch hunt being devised from a tragedy. it particularly is Republicans searching for political hazard. The AP surveillance is a hundred% criminal because of the fact congress exceeded a regulation announcing it particularly is under our final president. The IRS difficulty, is a localized adventure in Cincinnati, which got here approximately and became got here upon final 12 months. The operative became released. The president had not something to do with any of this. i discover the AP tale aggravating, besides the shown fact that it particularly is totally criminal. i discover the IRS difficulty troubling, besides the shown fact that it became dealt with some distance faraway from presidential notice. relax. i'm effective you will locate yet another marvelous merchandise to distract you quickly.
- Q:the wires that are in most electric appliances
- Live = Brown wire Neutral = Blue wire Earth = Green/yellow wire NB Some one (he's removed his answer) implied that one terminal was called Positive. Please note that you do not have a Positive (or Negative)) wire/terminal on an AC mains system. Positive/Negative imply a DC system which is not extant in the UK/EU. (I believe Derby did have a DC system decades ago -very odd and wasteful!).
- Q:The switches for the ventilation have 6 wires coming out of the ceiling. My ventilation unit has 5 wires. The ceiling has 2 black, 2 red, and 2 white wires. The ventilation unit has yellow, black, white, red, and blue. how do i make the connections?
- did a schematic not come with the unit ?
- Q:I have a very old house. I was unhooking the fluorescent light in our kitchen to put a round ceiling light in and the old fluorescent light was plugged into the ceiling (like any regular two pronged electrical plug). How do I wire the ground wire, the line voltage wire, and the neutral wire from the new light so I can plug it into the plug in my ceiling?
- disconnect the outlet in your ceiling and expose the wiring and hardwire the new light this way, using the supplied wire nuts etc... if its an older home you may have trouble matching the new wiring scheme (black wire, white wire, copper wire) to what is existing in your ceiling... turn the juice off before you try (at the switch that controls the light and throw the breaker or pull the fuse just to be safe) thats always the way it works... attach the ground wire to a screw that holds up the new light (if its not grounded all the way through the circuit it wont matter anyway) if you have an electricity tester try and determine which wire is hot and connect the black wire to that one, white wire to the other one.. maybe you can tell by the way the outlet was wired which one was carrying the load if you look closely at where the connections were made, often times those hot screw terminals will be differnt color than the neutral (gold vs silver?).. if all else fails i would say the blue marked one was marked for a reason, probably to show that it is hot.
- Q:I am trying to hook up my motorcycle turn signals but am having trouble with the wiring. Off of each signal stem comes a red wire (positve) and black wire (negative). Then coming form my bike I have a purple wire, blue wire, and green wire. I was messing around with the connections and was able to get all my signals to light up, but not in the fashion i need, like blinking correctly. Any suggestions? Do I need to split the wires? Does one wire go to the left signal and one to the right?
- Does the flasher work? Are you using two filament bulbs? The green wire is a ground. The blue and purple sound like HD wiring, one is for blinkers, and one for running lights.
