Q:I am replacing my garbage disposal. I have black, white wires and a black/yellow wire. How do I connect this black/yellow wire. Is this a hot wire as well?

A wire that is black or red (with or without any other colors) should be considered to be hot (carrying current). Why not just trip the circuit breaker or, at least, turn the switch to the off position before you mess with the wires? Make a diagram of how the wires were connected to the old garbage disposal, and connect them to the new one, the same way. There should be one white wire, on colored wire (not green or bare copper), and one green or plain copper wire. The green or plain copper wire is the ground. That connects to a (usually) green colored screw/bolt that is inside the wiring box on the disposal. The other two wires connect to the white and red/black wire.

Q:I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?

A good stripper has settings for each wire size. Make sure you have it set to the correct size. Are you nicking the wire or cutting some of the strands? if not, then that the wire gets split is not a problem. Just twist the strands back together. ending up stranded? the wire starts out solid or stranded, you can't make solid into stranded. .

Q:When they stole my stereo they ripped everything off now i just have wires i tried looking up wiring harness and nothing.. Im kinda frustrated lol i have 3 blue wires 3 dark greens orange black tan yellow.brown etc.. Can u guys tell me.plz what they are i dont want to keep burning fuses lol

Q:How do I wire this ceiling fan? There are two house wires coming from ceiling-one white, one black. There are three wires on the fan- one white, one solid black, and one black with a white stripe. There is one light switch in the room that will be operating the fan/light (the fan has a light on it). I wired the white wire to the white wire, the black wire with the white stripe to the black wire, didn't know where to wire the solid black wire to. Now only the light part of the fan works, the fan does not work at all. Where does the solid black wire go? I need both the fan and the light to work.

Simple ------- wire-nut the 2 white wires together then wire-nut the solid black(from the house side)to both the black wire and black wire with white trace together. In many ceiling fans they use a blue wire for the fan light, but it appears they are using the black wire /with white trace for the fan light in this case.

Q:I have this sony x plod headunit that i want to install.unfortunetely i do not know the wiring on it. i could find out as i go along which wires go to which speakers... but which two wires are the POWER wires?so i attached pictures but the basic layout is on the left side there are 4 sets of two wires (im assuming they pair up vertically)on the right side there is a long black wire with a metal hook on the end.

Q:I have a 1990 chevy c1500 2wheel drive. I bought it not running. I have found the problem and it the tbi injectors are not hooked up. The 4 wires on the 2 injectors are red and the 4 wires going to the tbi are red,blue,green,white. what wires go were? Thanx for all your help.

The red and white wires are the power to each injector and are actually hooked to each other in the harness. These 2 wires should be hot when you turn the key on. The green and blue wires are the grounds that lead back to the ecm. The red and blue wires go to the passenger side injector (red is far left as you face the vehicle). The white and green go to drivers side (white on left as you face it)

Q:I have a Trane Heat pump AC/Heat. There are several wires and Im a little stumped? There is a Tan wire*which the book does not show) and a black wire that is labled X1 on the old one but is not in the new ones book? I have also been told NOT TO hook blue wire up to the B port?? But if not, not sure where to put it?

Go get an HVAC technician to install it. You'll have at lot less headaches

Q:i want to install a new light in a old house.the problem is that there are three black wires coming out of he ceilng.the old light fixture has two black wires. two ceiling wires are connected to one fixture wire and the other ceiling wire i connected to he other fixture wire.i dont know which is the hot wire and which is the comon wire.also the new light has a ground wire ,2 blue wires and 2 white wires but, there is no ground wire coming out of the box. please help

Seems to me you are dealing with an old knob and tube wiring system, not complicated. You probable have three cotton coated wires in the ceiling box, they used to be coded and now they're tarnished. Two of the wires are common or neutral and one live being fed from the switch. When you removed the old fixture two wires were connected to one side of the light fixture these are the common wires and one wire was connected to the other side of the fixture this is the live wire from switch. If you can't remember which was which, simply get a tick tracer this device senses a live wire and with the power off verify that you have no live in the ceiling, with power on try again, if you find one power it's as I have said and the remaining wires are common, if not call an electrician they won't charge that much to hang a light fixture and you'll have peace of mind.
