Q:I keep trying to strip this damned wire but the copper wire inside the tubeing constantly ends up getting split apart instead of staying together. Im pretty sure Im doing it right Ive done it before easily. The wire is very old though could that be the problem?
There is isia tool called wire stripper available in tools store.Buy one and use it.It can be adjusted for different guague of wires,it cuts only insulation not the copper wire inside,
Q:I would like to know how to wire my West Marine VHF Radio.Coming out the back of the radio is a red wire, a white wire, and two black wires. The white wire and one of the black wires are a thinner gauge then the other black and red wires. Any solutions out there? Thanks
You could solder (best), or crimp connect a waterproof In Line fuse to the red wire, then connect it to a terminal Ring, and put over the red + battery post, then ground the black wire, by connecting a Terminal ring to it and put it over the NEG.- battery post. The In-Line fuse is circuit protection, OR you can by-pass this by conecting to a spare fuse on the Panel (red +), then ground the black wire to the Neg on the battery or neg - on the panel (fuse block). Direct connection to the battery is best, the other wires probably go to the Aux. Speaker which you will need as the speakers on the radio are too small to be heard over engine noise. Soldering works BEST, then coat with Liquid Lectric tape, or heat shrink tubing for a water resistant seal on the wires, and a good Marine connection. E-mail is open if further assistance is needed.
Q:my light stopped working ( a chandalier ). It has brown wires, blue wires, red wires, beige wires, and white wires.
If you have an Ohmmeter you can trace the chandelier wiring out. Each socket in the chandelier has two connections, the threaded part of the base and the very bottom of the base. The safest way to wire it is to run the hot to the bottom of the base and the neutral to the threaded part of the socket. Anyway you should be able to ohm each wire out to see where they go, then hook all the wires going to the bottom together and to the black wire in the junction box, then all the wired going to the threaded connection together and to the white wire in the junction box.
Q:Has anyone ever used welding wire in their car audio setup? Is it more flexible or less than other car power wire? Is this a big problem? Is it a good or bad jacket?Would you use it again?I am looking at buying some welding wire from weldingsupply because it is .81 per foot. I would love to know if anyone has done this before and what they thought. The wire i am looking at is 4 gague.
First off- it is cheaper than audio power wire, you can buy it as thick as 3 ought, I've seen it used. But flexibility is a big deal when hiding power wire, at least I think so, and welding wire is not the most flexible but it is better than solid wire, and power currant runs faster through audio power wire because of the small cooper strands that make up the wire. Than in welding wire because it has thicker and not as many strands that make up the wire, currant will run slower. Will any wire work? yes........ go to a smaller local audio dealer and ask the owner for info
Q:Does anyone know what the wire harness is called that runs from the chassis to the door called on a 1995 jeep gc. This wire harness includes the speaker wires, power window wires, and power lock wires. I have checked everywhere and cannot see what this harness is called.
Its called a wire harness. I beleive it is the main dash wire harness, but you wont get anywhere with that if you are trying to get one from a parts house or dealer, You just have to hit and miss at the salvage yard or digging around yourself and get lucky. But if you can trace the wires to a block connector or firewall connector you will be in luck and just tell them the location of the block where the harness is connected and you should be there, just remember all your options in you truck will have to match the options in the donor truck or the harness wont work for you
Q:lime wire
once you get the songs off of Lime wire, create and put them on a play list. then burn it. i usually burn mine off of Windows Media Player, but it's all up to you were you burn it from
Q:Why is thin strand wire better for powering car audio?
DC current rides on the outer valence electrons at the surface of the wire strand so the more conductors in the cable stranded together the better. AC current is a push pull so any old aluminum conductor will work as long as it won't melt under the amperage load. For 12 VDC audio amps, you want the power cable with the most fine strands twisted together for the least resistance to DC current flow because the power FET's will heat up as the power feed wire heats up. The lower the DC voltage loss, the cooler the FET amplifier modules will operate.
Q:hi i recently installed new plug wires into my continental should i put shieldings on them?
I never had em in my 68 460 So long as the wires are not touching the engine or exhaust. After a drive feel them to see if they seem too hot. Have fun!
Q:In the ceiling is one black, one white and a ground. How do I connect a new ceiling fan to these two wires? The ceiling fan has black wire, white wire, a blue wire and a green wire. We don't have green in the ceiling nor do we have a ground...knob and tube perhaps? So, can we connect this fan or not? Thanks!
Personally, I would not connect anything to old knob-n-tube wiring. I would replace all of it with modern wiring. And as for a ceiling fan, not only does it require a box designed for ceiling fan support (which I doubt you have right now), it also requires 3 wires, served by a 14/3 Romex with ground. It will have a black, white, red, and bare ground. The red wire is for the light, black for the fan, white neutral, and bare copper to green ground. On the wall, you will need a double-gang box containing 2 devices. One is a standard light switch controlling the light. The other is a fan controller unit ($12.49 at Home Depot) for the fan speed. It has 4 click-stops, High, Medium, Low, and Off. It uses a standard double-switch wallplate. On the fan itself, cut the chains off. Be sure the fan is set to HIGH, and the light ON when you cut them.
Q:When it is time to replace wiring in a building?
Some places require a re-wiring of a home if you replace the main service panel and the wiring is old, such as post and wrap or two conductor. In general, unless you have very old wiring, have had a fire, or need to upgrade your power availability in a room, you will not need to replace the wire. And my advice, if you have ANY post and wrap, or cloth insulated two-wire, get it replaced. That stuff is a fire hazard, as the rubber and cloth in those kinds of wires breaks down after decades, and can allow arcing to occur. Which can lead to a house fire.
